Akasha: A force that composed of the conscious, unconscious, and subconscious minds
working together. Some magickal practitioners call it the element of spirit, Devine Power,
or Higher Self.
Ankh: An Egyptian symbol of feminity. Constructed of an equalarmed cross with a
circle on top, it is the Astrological sign for Venus.
Asperge: To sprinkle with a liquid, usually water. Asperging involves dipping a ritual
tool of some type(such as a wand, athame, bunch of herbs, or a branch.) in to liquid, then shaking it off on to the item to be
blessed or consecrated. Circles, Spaces to be consecrated, or ritual items are often asperged as part of the cleansing
or blessing ceremony.
Athame: A consecrated double-edged knife, usually black-handled, used for circle casting
inscribing candles, and other ritual-related activities. According to most pagan/wiccan traditions, the athame must never be used
to draw blood.
CPU: This abbreviation stands for Central Processing Unit. The CPU is actually your computer.
When spells instruct you to place something on top of your CPU, just put it on top of the computer case.
Deosil: Clockwise.
Dominant Hand/Arm: This refers to the hand you use most often (for writing, picking things up with,
and so on). If you are right handed, use the right hand/arm. If you are left handed, use the left hand/arm.
Magick: The change of any condition through ritual means.
Pentagram: An open-work five-pointed star. The pentagram is a power symbol dating back
to ancient times. Some practitioners call it the "macrocosmotman", because when we stand with out feet apart and out arms extended
out from our sides, we form a human star. With one point up, the pentagram symbolizes the power of the mind (Akasha) over matter (The Elements).
An inverted pentagram (2 points up) represents matter over mind.
Summerland:A pagan word for the place where the spirit resides in the afterlife. Some people think of it as the Pagan
equivalent to heaven.
Taglock: An extention of the human body used to identify a person around whom a ritual or spell revolves. Common
taglocks include, a lock of hair, a fingernail clipping, and eyelash, or a drop of blood.
Third Eye: The point located in the forehead just above the spot between the eyebrows. Because it is believed that this area of the
brain houses all components of the psychic ability, many people also call this point the "psychic center". When a spell or ritual instructs you to let a particular
color flow from the third eye, just visualize light of that color streaming from that location on your forehead.
Wand: A ritual circle casting tool made of wood, metal, or stone. Traditionally the wand is no larger in diameter than
the practioner's thumb, and is as long the measurement between the bend in the elbow and the tip of the middle finger.
Widdershins: Counter Clockwise.
