© Copyright Brian Brown, 1995-2000. All rights reserved.

Welcome to the exciting world of communications. As a people on this planet we communicate in many varied ways. Throughout our history we have used cave writings, books, symbols, language and gestures to communicate with others. Now, with the advent of the "Information Society", our communication is predominantly taking place using information technology, such as computers.

This self paced tutorial is about "Data Communications", the technologies we use in the information age to communicate with each other and exchange information, such as telephones and the Internet. It is aimed as an introductory guide, thus some aspects are not covered in great technical detail; the primary purpose is to serve as an introduction to the field of Data communications.

Included in this learning guide are "interactive tests", that use Javascript™, so please ensure you are using a Javascript™ enabled browser when viewing these pages.
