Full Moon Names
The Algonquin


Historically, the Native Americans of what is now the northern and eastern United States named each season by giving a distinctive name to each recurring full Moon. This name is applied to the entire month in which it occurres. The same Moon names, listed below, are used throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior with only a few variations.

* The Harvest Moon is always the full Moon closest to the Autumn Equinox. If the Harvest Moon occurs in October, then the September full Moon is called the Corn Moon.
