ANCESTORS

McCANN

McCANN, ROSANNE, or Rose or Rosann, was born 1824 in Ohio (per various census records), married first to EDWARD CUSAC, October 08, 1845 in Muskingum County, Ohio, having five children, and married second to Cy Willard, January 15, 1866, Clark County, Illinois, having at least one known son - Daniel Willard from this marriage. Copies of both of Rosanne's marriages are on hand. Rosanna died 1896 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the home of a step-daughter. Rosanne was still in Clark County, Illinois as late as 1887 during the probate of her son John Cusick's estate. The 1880 Census will state Rosanne's father was of Ireland, and her mother was born in Virginia. We need to pursue a McCann in Ohio in the 1830 Census.

CUSAC / CUSICK

CUSICK, EDWARD. Also spelled Cusac, Cusack, & Cusic. Born 1810 Ireland (1), died October 07, 1855, Livingston, Clark County, IL., while working on the roads near Livingston (2). Married October 08, 1845 in Muskingum County, Ohio to Rosanne McCann.(3) Edward apparently came to Clark County, Illinois in 1854. In 1850, Muskingum County Ohio records of Common Pleas Court, we find the Declaration of Intention for Naturalizations, which required a minimum 5 year residency.

Children:

1. Phillip Cusick, born March 10, 1847 Muskingum County Ohio, married Mary ----, died July 16, 1912, St. Anthony Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana of malnutrition. Buried in the Patrick & Julia McCarty plot in St. Josephs Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN. Residence at the time was 628 North 3rd Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, the home of his sister - Mary Angeline Cusick McCarthy. Phillip had no children.
2. Margaret Cusick, born 1849, Muskingum County, Ohio. - no further record. (Could this be the elderly Aunt "May" that Daniel W. McCarthy and sister Mary Elizabeth McCarthy remember in the late 1920's / early 1930's coming to visit from San Diego, California?)
3. John Cusick, born 1851, Muskingum County, Ohio, died August 1885 in Clark County, Illinois. Wife - Mary Doshia, 1858-1883. No children. Buried St. Mary's Cemetery, Marshall, Illinois.

SELF FAMILY

John Self, Littleberry Self, William Self, Greenberry Self, Lona W. Self: is my direct Self family lineage. The data on this branch, as well as the national family collection of data is tremendous. Way too big for this website.

The Official Homepage of the Self-Selfe-Selph family can be found at: http://www.self-family.com. Here you can join in with actual Self family descendant researchers. For the real researcher, and for only about 3 cents a day, one can join the Self Family Newsletter research group and receive a quarterly publication full of Self family data, averaging about 110 pages per year.

DO NOT confuse the Self Family Newsletter group with a johnny come lately imitation using almost identical names as our group, and whose promoter is not even a Self descendant. The original group was founded in 1982 and is operated entirely by Self family descendants.

WARNER

WARNER, DANIEL. Born, we have assumed by deducting 25 years from the birth of his earliest child with a birthdate, 1742, in location unknown. His children will claim birth in Pennsylvania in the mid 1760's. First record of Daniel Warner is in the 1790 Census of Cumberland County, Eastern Portion, Pennsylvania, where he is neighbor to Israel Lake, his son-in-law. He is listed as Danial Warner with 2 males under 16, 2 males over 16, and one female. By 1793 he and Israel Lake are found in Botetourt County, Virginia. Daniel Warner's will (copy on file), listed in index as Daniel Wernor, is dated 1801. His known children are, per will:

1. George Warner - A George Warner is listed in the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850 Census indices of Botetourt County, Virginia. George Warner will post bond for the marriage of Frances Lake to Isaac Sarver in 1810, Botetourt County, Virginia. George was married to Barbara _____??
Misc. records of George Warner:
Deed Book 5 Page 32 Botetourt Co. Va., December 10, 1793, William and Margaret, his wife, and Andrew L. Crow, for one dollar, 56 acres on Sow Creek to George Warner.
Deed Book 5 Page 33 Botetourt Co. VA., December 10, 1793, William and Margaret Crow, for 6 shillings, 45 acres on Looney Creek, to George Warner.
1794 Botetourt Co. VA. personal property tax list has George Warner with one white male and two horses
Order Book 9 Page 88, the above mentioned deeds are ordered to be recorded.
Order Book 9 Page 148, Survey.
Order Book 9 Page 270, July 15, 1795, George Warner vs Andrew Hurry for 5 pounds.
Order Book 9 Page 303, November 11, 1795, case continued.
Order Book 9 Page 397, August 13, 1796, George Warner is a juror.
June 10, 1812, Nancy Overstreet, daughter of William Overstreet, dec'd, marries in Botetourt County with George Werner as surety.
These early items, tho only a fraction of George's activity in Botetourt County, were presented to show our Warner family had to be in Botetourt by at least December of 1793. Did the crow family give George Warner a good deal or what?

2. Mary Warner, born 1767 in Pennsylvania, died 1852 (tombstone photo on file) in Morgan County, Indiana, was married to Israel Lake in Pennsylvania.
3. Anne Warner, born 1768, Pennsylvania / New Jersey, married Henry Burger (born Johann Henrich Boerger, a Hessian soldier who evidently deserted prior to 1783) , March 27, 1795 (Botetourt County Va. Marriages Volume 1 page 64). She died near Lapsley Run and an unconfirmed email note says she is buried at Zion Hill Cemetery, both, just north of Fincastle, Botetourt County. Henry Burger born prior 1765, per 1810 Census return.
4. William Warner married in 1793 to Sarah Faught.
5. Sarah Warner, born 26 November 1778 in Pennsylvania, died March 1836 in Botetourt Co. VA., married to William Obershain.
6. Phillip Warner - no further record.
7. Aaron Warner, born 1791, marries on April 06, 1810, Botetourt County, Virginia, to Susanna Simmons. An Aaron Warner is found in the 1840 Census of Pulaski County, Virginia. The Simmons were prior of York Co. PA., and would later leave Botetourt for Clark Co. Ohio.

The will of Daniel Warner, 24 October, 1801, recorded in June Court 1802, Will Book B, page 18, Botetourt County, Virginia, names: son George to receive $10.00 and bed of furniture; grandson Daniel, the son of George, to receive six pounds; daughter Mary Lake to receive one dollar; daughter Anne Burger to receive one dollar; son William Warner to receive one dollar; daughter Sarah Warner to receive one dollar; son Phillip Warner to receive 9 pounds; son Aaron to receive six pounds; grandson Daniel Lake to receive five pounds; and grand-daughter Frances Lake to receive five pounds. The residue of my estate to be equally divided amongst all my children living at my decease. Son George to be the executor. Witness: James Tapscott, Durst Ammen, and Christian Harshbarger. An addendum covers the fact that at the time of the will, some children were still under the age of twenty-one.

Note: I have failed to find records of Daniel Warner in Cumberland County, PA. in order to add details to this family and to pursue the lineage further.

Note: On 15 Nov. 2002, I found in the book German Pioneers to Pennsylvania, Ship Lists. "The Patience" from Rotterdam, but last of Cowes in England, arrives Philadelphia on August 11, 1750, with passengers including - Daniel Werner. - Dan

Note: One of the articles found on Henry Burger by Steve states that "it is thought that the Burger and Warner families had known each other before coming to Botetourt." The first Burger record in Botetourt is a land purchase in 1793, the same year as George Werner which makes sense, however a check of the 1790 census near Daniel Warner and Israel Lake, who we know migrate in 1793 from Cumberland County, PA., no Burger / Boerger families are found. - dan

April, 1787 - Michael Coleman and family and his son John Coleman and family "from near Carlisle, Pennsylvania" arrived at Fort Belleville, Virginia (present day Wood Co., WV). "It is recorded that he (Michael Coleman) had performed garrison duty at Fort Pitt, Fort Hamar (Marietta), Fort Henry (Wheeling) and Fort Belleville". (They arrived with four other Scotch families.) Michael Coleman was killed February, 1793, in Wood County, VA, now Jackson County, WV., killed by Indians. In the town of Cottageville, there is a marker off the highway situated in a little road side rest area that reads: "Michael Coleman, member of a hunting party from frontier fort at Belleville, was killed and scalped by Indians at this point about 1793..." His body was found scalped & stripped of all clothing. He was buried on the spot.
