George Sterling, Poet
m a i n p a g e
George Sterling (1869-1926)
George was my great-uncle, the brother of my maternal grandmother, Alice Sterling Gregory. He died two years before my mother was born. He is remembered for his poetry, his friendship with Jack London, his "founding" role in the early days of Carmel-by-the-Sea, and his bohemian lifestyle.
George was not much talked about in our family when I was a child; I assume because of his non-conformist ways and the way he met death. And so, these pages are my attempt to reconnect with a part of my family as well as a means of sharing his poetry and his life with others.
