Buena Vista Palace opened on March 10, 1983, and was among the first resorts that made up the Walt Disney World Village, now known as the Disney Springs Resort Area. It is one of resorts in the Disney Springs Resort Area not owned or operated by Disney. The Buena Vista Palace Resort & Spa was re-branded and re-named as the Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa in November 1998. The Laughing Kookaburra Good Time Bar, known affectionately among staffers as the Kook, and Arthur's 27, the top-of-the-line restaurant at the top of the Buena Vista Palace closed August 26, 2005. The closing came about with the sale of Wyndham International to Blackstone Real Estate Advisors. Blackstone announced the space would be used for private functions and catered events. The hotel was sold to the Hilton Corporation in 2015, and has since been renamed as the "Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace".
