This a picture of the De Queen High School taken in 1948; the year I graduated. I think this building was completed in 1936.

Shortly after this building was completed the students from the old Central School was moved to the Junior High Building, and a small building next to Old Junior High.

I was in the third grade when we moved. Miss Johnson was our teacher. She later married Sweeny Weber.

A new Central school was built on a city block between North Third and North Fourth Street and West Vandervoot and West Altena.

We moved back to the new Central School building when I was in the fifth grade. Miss Mattie Leslie, an old Maid, was our fifth grade teacher. I have a picture elswhere on my site of the class and the school not long after we moved back to our new and state of the art building.

The Teachers Names that I can recall were Mrs Nina Smith (Schull,) Miss Jury, Mrs Cora Pullen, Mrs. Wright, Miss Carol (Lake,) Mrs Johnson (Weber,) Miss Mattie Leslie and Mrs. Wille Leslie.
