Song
Lord Build Your Church
(Lyrics and music: Ng Wah Lok)

Lord, Build Your Church
A glorious place for Your presence to dwell
Make it a glorious Church
Filled with beauty cos’ Your glory resides
Holy Spirit, Let Your presence come
To fill Your Church.

And we’ll walk by faith
To claim the promises on our hearts You have laid
As we scale the heights
We will march on till we win the prize
Hand in hand together we’ll stand
To take this land.

   Chorus
Let Your presence go before us
Let Your glory dwell among us
Holy Spirit let Your presence come
   To fill Your Church

And we’ll take this land
With Your glorious gospel in our hands
With Your Spirit’s might
We will march on till we win every fight
Hand in hand, together we’ll stand
To take this land.

Background of song
FGT had a vision to build a sanctuary for the glory of God. When we first purchased the land for our building, we did not have sufficient funds. The cost of the land was RM1.4 million but the church had only a few hundred thousand. Nevertheless, the elders of FGT went ahead with the purchase believing that God will provide. A loan was applied for just in case there was insufficient funds. Finally, the land was paid for in cash. The loan was never utilized.

In 1995, FGT began to raise funds for our building. The original budget was approximately 4 million. As the years passed, the budget increased to RM5 million. Our Senior Pastor Eu Hong Seng challenged the people to give sacrificially. The people responded positively. Some members sold houses to pledge to the church building fund. Members were pledging 10’s, 20’s, 50’s and 100’s thousand to the church building. On 1st January 1999, we commenced construction of our building. We were still short of RM 1.4 million. In the middle of year 2000, the building will be completed. As at today, our shortfall had reduced to RM600,000. We believe that God will provide and the building will be paid for fully in cash. We still marvel at the financial miracles that God has done in the Church.

This song was written in 1996 when we were actively raising funds for our building. We did not want to build just a building but a sanctuary where the presence of God will dwell, a beautiful place for His glory to reside.
