Behind the Veil

Behind the veil
Like a shroud
You hide your peaks
Tantalizing
Revealing them
Occasionally
At dawn
Or dusk
When you think
No one is looking

I’ve seen them at night

When the fireflies and stars
Seemed as one
You stood naked
In all your glory
Bathed in moonlight
And I believed you were made
Of silver
Or platinum

On strawberry fields
And flower strewn meadows
In the shade

Of moss-laden rocks

On hot afternoons I’ve lain

Chewing on lush grass
Waiting patiently
For you to shed your modesty
To savour
The sight
Of you reflecting the sun

But you denied us both
That spectacle we craved
And I traveled so far
To watch you undress
I blame the Sun
Was it his heat?
Or lecherous gaze
That made you hide
Behind the cloud
So proud
Nandadevi
