DISCARDED

When it’s dark

I am your guiding light

To protect you

From the fright

Of being by your own

And confronting your soul

All alone

Yet when day breaks

Like your dream

You discard me

Switch off my beam

If I’m the fire

That provides you warmth

Lights up your passion

Then why do you discard me

Like garment

That’s out of fashion

You say I am the tree

That gives you refuge

From life’s scorching rays

It’s subterfuge

Because when the sun sets

You leave me to the night

Deserted and discarded

While you seek the light

I am the hammer

That from your chain

Has set you free

Even from me

That you may fly again

And iron that I am

Rooted to this earth

I remain

Once again discarded

Rust covering my pain
