TURNING STONE (SYRACUSE), NY

September 10, 2001, Monday- our cheeks are still hurting from the smiles and good wishes from yesterday's good news.

Left Ottawa at 10 and drove south into the US. Stopped at the duty free shop and couldn't believe how inexpensive my "Sapphire" gin is priced. A one liter bottle, $16.50 Canadian, about $11 US. We've paid as much at $30 for a 750 ML bottle (3/4 size). No problems coming into the states….and down to Syracuse we drove. Actually we're at Turning Stone, the Oneida Nation casino. They provide a first class RV Park. After being in Canada with the coach since May, it's nice to be plugged into 50 amps for a change….and not worrying about bad electric quantity or quality. At the last park the voltage was so iffy, that to run the air conditioners we had to turn on the generator.

Also we now have a land line right into the coach. Civilized!

Lots of phone calls with well wishes on Becky and Steve' engagement. Keep them coming.

September 11, 2001, Tuesday- a day that our innocence was destroyed. The unspeakable happened as we watched the morning news. Impossible that what we were viewing was really happening. How many thousands of lives were lost we may never know. How were the planes hijacked? How many more attacks do we face? Where will it end? Terrible…..

HORROR BEYOND BELIEF

September 12, 2001, Wednesday- the tragedy continues and the dust still hasn't settled. We've heard many stories from our friends and family of people that by the grace of God had changed jobs the day before away from the WTC, or had doctors appointments and weren't at work yesterday morning. Others were not so fortunate.

Getting back into the daily functions of life, which must go on, the Oneida Nation, besides running the casinos, hotel and RV park, operate some discount gas stations and quick lube auto service. In an hour I filled the coach up with almost 100 gallons, topped off the propane, and then got the Jeep serviced. More then convenient.
