STEVE AND
BECKY'S WEDDING DAY
June 16, 2002,
Sunday- the wedding day is finally
here. Joined Cami at the Gerald Ford Amphitheater where the ceremony
is to be held later in the day. Her project of designing and
constructing the "chuppa" has exceeded our wildest expectations.
Starting with specially fabricated steel bases, hand selected and cut
dried willow branches from her property are attached to form free
flowing arches. Around the bases and branches are glued moss, vines,
lavender and ribbons. It is truly something to behold.
Next the brides' maids were attaching willows,
lavender and ribbon along the center isle. Finally I got to help
decorate the golf cart with more of the same to take them to their
car.
Lunch with Mom, something special at the Bully
Ranch, and then into my tuxedo. At 3:30 the male part of the wedding
party grouped at the amphitheater, and at 4 photos were started.
Before we knew it, 5 PM was here. All of the guests were seated and
the music was starting. After a processional to the stage, the
loveliest bride, in a gown beyond description, accompanied by Steve,
entered the chuppa, and Uncle Art, performing the Jewish portion of
the ceremony, announced that it was alright to cry. I don't think
there was a dry eye in the place. Becky and Steve had planned for a
40 minute ceremony. Although the clock showed about an hour and 10,
it seems like it was just a magic moment from beginning to end. Art
and Janet (representing the Christian faith) conducted a warm,
personal and meaningful service, joining Steve and Becky as husband
and wife. Cami and I read a poem, others talked about the
requirements for a successful marriage, and Steve and Becky exchanged
their vows. Dry eyes were not an option. It was lovely beyond
description. Maybe I'm prejudice, and maybe I'm just relaying
reality. Bottom line, we now have newlyweds in the family and they
have a sparkle in their eyes like we haven't seen in a long
time.
Now the festivities can begin in earnest. At
the Lodge at Vail, drinks and passed trays were everywhere. Flowers
and wedding cake, all with purple accents continued the color theme.
Table names represented locations where the newlyweds have had
meaningful life experiences, along with an explanation, in detail, of
each location.
Dinner was top notch, and the band was a
knockout. After the obligatory "first dance", which was more then
lovely, the band cranked up a "hora". The next thing we knew,
everyone was on the dance floor. Steve and Becky were up in the
obligatory chairs being carried around, and joy, cheer and frivolity
were everywhere. All of us dancing fools danced the night away, and
before we knew it, the clock struck 12 and the band had to stop (Town
of Vail ordinance).
"Oh what a night"! Having so many friends and
family, both old and new to share this weekend, perfectly capped the
beginning of Steve and Becky's long and happy life
together.
How can a father put in words the joyous
feeling that this wedding had brought? Impossible, but the feeling is
joyous, warm, loving, and lasting.
