We had a tour to St. Andrews and the East Neuk Coast booked for the afternoon.
Our tour guide was a wonderful man named George. George made our time in Scotland
so special, showing us so much of the culture and answering all our many questions.
St. Andrews is known around the world to golfers, so I was quite excited to visit there.
It's actually called St. Andrews Links because in Scotland, golf courses on the coastal waters
are known as Links, not courses. This is the site of this year's British Open, and we stood on the
18th hole bridge leading to the green in complete awe. It truly is a beautiful place. We all
bought tons of golfing goodies from the pro shop for our men back home. We then toured the town which
has Scotland's oldest university.
As we left St. Andrews, we headed down the East Neuk to visit all the fishing villages along the coast. This was really interesting. George drove his van down two-way roads that were barely wide enough for one car. The houses were literally right up against the water, side by side. Each village had a marina for the fishing boats. We went through Kingsbarns, Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St. Monans, and Elie. It sounds cliche, but these villages were truly quaint and lovely. Some homes dated back to the 1600s and are still lived in today- amazing!
