Images of Millstone Dressing and the Tools of the Millstone Dresser

Furrowing Stick

Charles Howell using a furrowing stick to mark out the furrows.

Trammel

Ted Hazen with a trammel on the millstone spindle (giving a general demonstration).
For actual use in leveling the bottom bedstone,
the trammel sits on the millstone spindle (without the driver) and is wedged in place.
A feather quill is inserted (in place of dowel rod) at the end of the trammel.
