Program Notes
Disclaimer: these are my extremely humble opinions ~ no more, no less.
3. "Hands in the Air"
I reviewed this song out of order because, in my opinion, it would
have made a better fit as the #2 song in the program. I feel it doesn't
quite "stand-up" after "Up In Flames". HITA is musically very simple
and straightforward. I feel a bit let-down hearing it following a
more complex song like UIF, but I'm sure I'll forgive HITA its simplicity
when standing in the #2 slot in the program.
6. "If I Could Fly"
This song has -- unexpectedly from my standpoint -- grown on me over
time. Finally the light-bulb comes on and I realize: perhaps it has
trouble "standing-up" after the soulful perfection of ITLIS? So I've
assigned this wonderful tune a space where I think it might flow better:
from the #4 slot, where as a listener I'm primed and ready for almost anything
by the energy of the first 3 songs.
Then, to avoid placing another Wah-song after ITLIS?, I place "Lifestyle" after the title cut. Having thus carefully rearranged the first six songs, it's time to move on to #7 The Souls of Distortion and the program flows just fine from there on in. Again, in my opinion.
This is the only reason I've reviewed the first six songs out of their original order.
