"One of the finest Canadian poets of his generation." Robin Skelton
Welcome to the Harold Rhenisch web site. Here are descriptions of his 10 books as well as his works in progress, samples from each of his books, essays and writing philosophy, links to his publishers, a biography, ordering information, links to his book review magazines, The Milestones Review and Wireweed, and even some old photos.
Since 1982, Harold Rhenisch has published 8 books of poetry, most recently Fusion, 2 chapbooks of poetry, and the best-selling memoir about post-colonial orchard life in British Columbia's Similkameen Valley, Out of the Interior: the Lost Country. A long-time student of Ezra Pound, gnosticism, East European poetry, New Music, Robert Graves, V.S. Naipaul, Gary Snyder, Peter Handke, Friederich Dürrenmatt, Coyote, and Wallace Stevens, he has worked for two decades rejuvenating the traditions of poetry and giving voice and a sophisticated language to the oral cultures of rural Canada. Rhenisch's fascinations run from the lyric to the elegaic, the historical to the satiric, the mythic to the comical.
"This is rural poetry at its best." George Woodcock
