The Poetry Of...
Christopher Major..............................
CANCER

They say
due to lifestyle
it's inevitable.
Congested arteries,
vibrant hearts pushing
rogue cells through
our aging tubes.

Prevention is now
the watchword;
take precautions,
reduce risks-
report anomalies,
suspicious packages......

FAST (2006)

They form lines
the men and women,
malnourished and pot-bellied,
their desperate children
hungry,
shoving to be
first to food
that uniforms hand out.

As they wait,
the young moan and cry;
a large truck stops,
disembarks -
a car pays.......drives thru.

TURKEY

We watched as she
'came off',
trembling cold
though blanket-wrapped,
painfully thin.
Those cod-eyes,
pupils wide,
offered inkblack means
to write 'the end'.

She shits jet slimy pus,
darkness she can
no longer hold;
and as sharp pains
slice family ties,
we hand her to
social workers
instead of mum......
