.............The Poetry Of
....................
Don Hakman
.......
MLK
.......
.......
The racism in Boston
.......
spills easily and frequently
.......
from the lips of the unwashed
.......
well dressed suburbanites.
.......
From the show room
.......
of a car dealership illegally open
.......
on Martin Luther King day,
.......
I watched the bill board workers.
.......
They intentionally pasted
.......
the MLK tribute, scrambled-
.......
"the least of us whenever
.......
wrong unto me whatever you all do."
.......
.......
.......
.......
.......
never the same
.......
.......
A true witness knows
.......
the mysterious delicious anticipation
.......
that pulls their eyes upward,
.......
imploring the sky to open
.......
and reveal a truth.
.......
The payoff is always surprise.
.......
Its been almost 5 years now.
.......
I may never see you again
.......
but having once cowered
.......
and once shouted,
.......
and another time touched,
.......
I feel it will never be the same.
.......
.......
.......
.......
.......
During the peace conference
.......
.......
she came
.......
by ambulance.
.......
Her eyes betrayed her.
.......
.......
She was shot
.......
exploding the C4
.......
around her womb.
.......
.......
He came by the front door
.......
to passover dinner.
.......
.......
The explosion felt
.......
silent
.......
as ceilings collapsed-
.......
.......
the place that was saved
.......
was soaked in blood.
.......
.......
They both came from the
.......
moral high ground
.......
and now
.......
they return to it,
.......
taking their holiest words
.......
back into the dirt.
