The Poetry Of
Al Ferber

Blue Skies

This morning the sun is bright
surrounded by blue skies
the earth
beneath all this beauty
is frozen tundra
13 degrees and high winds
a paradoxical effect
an anomaly of nature
on March 3rd
the lion of winter
roaring against the impending
approach of spring

Dominion

cold windy freezing
rain and snow days
still hold dominion
over this part of the planet
but on the edges
of this kingdom
a quiet unrest is brewing
stirred in underground
meetings of grubs
and seeds readying themselves
for a mass eruption
through earth and trees

Mocha Mojo

That's what they called her
Mocha Mojo
brown skin
bigger than life
an amazon built like a brick house
word had it she could crush
a man between her thighs
providing instant death
or eternal life
walked the streets
with the gait of a queen
but loved little children
with the gentleness of spring
more than anything

Moon Struck

as a boy of 11
I became moon struck
dumb struck by 12
star struck by 15
crashed and burned
by 16 and 1/2
when it seemed
heaven had been struck
by a massive meteor attack
heaven reduced to dust
stayed that way for decades
until 40 when I became
star struck
which enabled me
to remember being moon struck
dumb struck
star struck
in the distant past
that provided me
a pleasant passioned memory
of heaven before the crash

Fluidity

mercury
mercurial
maple syrup
melted butter
drawn butter
chocolate lava milk shake
misting rain
calm creek in spring
bottomless stream
of the subconsciousness
where we really live
