The Poetry Of...
Dan Gallik....................................
Although I've resisted featuring illustrated poems in..The Blue House~. Dan Gallik has created what seems to be new art form through the use of dreamlike photos and poignant snips of conversation that read like 'memories'... It reminds me of the way a person might begin speaking of specific events when parts of the brain are stimulated by electrical probe:.. it's all in there- along with their bleary images. I find these very moving. I believe you will too. I'm calling these
separated threads of life- "Dannerisms".~KCD
(Unfortunately... for all of us...I lost these graphics
in a computer 'meltdown' when I had to restore my entire
operating system. I have no other copies.{{{sigh}}}})
But even without images, these are powerful vignettes.
Herb's wife said,
"No picture tells no thousand words. I don know jus what made
you get into those expense camera things after you retired from
Oakle Electric. Shoulda stayed workin." Herbert J. Oxgood replied,
"Well, hon, pokin round light those 35 yrs. inside made me wanna
see light outside, I guess. Anyway, the doc said I got death comin."
Honest,
There is this new black guy that lives over in Buckeye
near where I live, and the guy is ugly. I mean, really
ugly. You know that old joke, "He's gotta sneak up on
a glass of water." Anyway, he showed me
this photo his daughter took of him. She's his only
child. He bought her a telephoto lens for her camera.
She cropped it - made it fuzzy - and took only the
new shirt he was wearing. Some t-shirt he bought at
Valu-City for fifty nine cents and tax. I told him, "Man,
your only kid really understands beauty."
I said,
"Hey, Dad what's going on?" He whispered, "I am closing my eyes. I see our boat out
there on Stoney. The motor won't start. You look young. But I'm thinking we'll start
it and I'm thinking we'll catch that big muskie today. That world record." I interrupted
him as he lie in the hospital bed with all those contraptions surrounding him, "What
will we do when we catch that big fish?" He took a deep breath, was almost not
audible when he said, "We will let that female go. Oh, she'll fight...We will let her swim
away from us." The slow breath came. I told my father right then that I would always be
after her. ..Always.
