The Poetry Of
Paul Lutton
Death Bed Words
I was sad mostly, did you know?
Hard being so alone
But it was the only way I knew how to be
And it was beautiful too, did you know?
To sing through your tears
Dogs And Cars
I heard you laughing from the other room
Talking to a dog
With the joyous tones of being
Later bills needed paying and cars needed fixed
The tone switched to accusation
Victimhood
Anger
I wondered what good these bills and cars were
Crash Test Screwed
I was down hard ribald and crash test screwed
Couldn't hear god talking through the caffeine static
I was a jonesed out nicotine detainee
In the Guantanamo future speak island of despair
Dylan blared from Highway 61
Unclear too in purple haze storm significance
Lost, lost in the frenzied search for more trees to cut down
To service the great god capitalism, on the eve
Of the next bigger bang
