The Poetry Of.
Francis Masat...........................
"Our 'To Do List' for Today"
...........
Today we must:
see and touch each other's art,
listen and play each other's music,
kiss and love each other's body,
read and speak each other's poetry,
feel and accept each other's being.
And we must remember:
Each tomorrow becomes "Today."
"bamboo metaphors"
all night - outside the window
burble, burble, bong bong bong
a melodic cane marimba taps
gurgling phrases herald
each light breeze's arrival
where it's headed next
age brings a change in tone
resonance may be lost
some notes are not as clear
mixing hard harmonies
discordance themes persist
as new winds gust past
bamboo chimes offer much
if we listen to the tunes
when new fronts first arrive
"A Can of Mixed Nuts"
A party! Drinks and snacks!
And the things I like the best
are the cans of salty party nuts,
the ones passed around
with cocktails, beer, or wine.
Sometimes they sit on a table,
off to the side, unobtrusive.
Everyone seems to love them,
else why would they disappear
so fast in rakes and pinches?
But during every party,
a sad moment arrives
with the tinny-tinking sound
of near emptiness, the sound
of only peanut fragments left.
So - would I dare to think
of crunchy metaphors
for all my salty friends
and their nearly empty cans?
Indeed. I think - mixed nuts!
