The Poetry Of...
Nathan A. Baker............................................
Water Drums
Outside my window raindrops
Pound a secret rhythm on dried leaves
Cellulose tightly woven reverberates the
Swollen aortal pulse of autumn
Natures percussive heartbeat drums
Like timbrels in angel's hands, golden leaf
Songs of redemption a long due release
Lessening in its drenched celebration
Water in joyous applause drips from eave
Overhangs muffling to cricket sounds
Rain slowing now as chirps from side yard
Increase and sounds of city traffic fill
The distance of my enclosed universe
Leaving me humming a new melody
Ocean Lyrics
He played a little guitar
Six strings and seven chords
He didn't play to entertain
Or in quest of rewards
He played out of compulsion
It was like an ocean in his soul
Songs rode in on the high tide
And down the beach he'd go
Picking up notes in a basket
Finding lyrics on sculptured shells
Laudatory songs in praise of living
Surfing inspiration's swell
Gifts of rhythm, rhyme, and word
Reflected in blues...poetry heard
Love's Fortress
I feel like love has gone
Somewhere far away
With no mention of leaving
Or how long it planned to stay.
Sequestered in this cold world
Im too scared to face the day
Waiting for night shadowed dancers
To catch the dreams we threw away.
I didn't realize what all I'd lost
Or know love's sting would be so real,
But in the absence of her kiss
Loss is all my troubled heart can feel.
For in the pool of her brown eyes
Once too shallow to conceal
Lies a depth now unreachable,
Hard as rock and cold as steel...
