The Poetry Of.
Karen Corcoran Dabkowski

Dragon Pet

Because we dare not
look into the
sliding dragon's eye

when it is open,

its
slit
of viciousness
is closed
to us, can only
be seen in the spleen
of others
having caught us
at our cathode height
of jumping
poles
from
positive
to negative, the unruly
curly
look
of what
we feel
surrealing back and forth
when the giant
silent lizard
lurks behind us, when the light blinks, lost to souls
who have
nothing
better to do than shift their sophistries
to another place or person, worse
cursed, and hardly
in our purview. Old
mute dragon,
duke
of the
landlocked
lake of Janus, spanning both
of our faces- Left/Right
heartquakes
unto
death
as we pretend
we still don't
see, as we blunder on, our fool's face raised- our feet
cliff
headed
to the brink of another folly- deeper
than
the last.

Old Singer, Alone

Pinched pipe stripe of moon
sings too remote to be a boat above us
slivered in its silver sloped cocoon. It sends thin
strings
to couples
apart, to the echo
of our rockers
rocking
childhoods
rent with
unattended squawling, adolescence
addled as a bedbug
running round the room
in search of flake and feather, leather
where we
would be
silk, our
sorry ilk, our stoned
of heart, we marksmen without Cupid
on our shoulders, bouldering our days
as dark, as
unrelenting
lopsided as a broken bra strap
supporting
nothing
but our ears
to hear the small, pared
piece of moon made
lamentation, lamentation and love that fills
the sky so.

Blue Prettys

She'd hung
them there

swollen belly
bottles-
blue
blown
to globes
cork-stoppered spell bottles
that would tinkle in the wind
from the limbs
of trees
the wishes wants
the haunts
of old extremes the afterbirth of dreams- cobalt
colored
curls
of copper
the autumn leaves
would show through rounded globes
and in truth
they spelled
delight those blue held breaths
the wishes
kisses
and ghosts
of plot
and schemes
that sometimes sang and sometimes
screamed
sometimes said the names
only appointed heard
the sung lost loves of bottles that Nanny
Witchwife
hung.
