IMAGE OF A GIRL

Through artificial light I see my reflection
but I can't see me
Through faded moments held in time
And a life cluttered with emotions, stories
Fairytales of sorts
I am covered.
Who is this apparition of a girl
That stands awkwardly in front of me?
She has been given a name and an outline of who to be
But who is she?
She is nothing
She is Will who cried for the first time
She is Andrew who kept her from jumping
She is Ashleigh who was wrapped in self-image
She is Scott who gave her a voice
She is Darrin who finally came out
She is Stephanie who was stretched too thin
She is Zoe who gave her laughter
She is Keith who let the drugs drop from his hand
She is Granville who gave her the will to soar above her problems
She is David who grew, matured, evolved into something more
She is Becky who entrusted her with secrets
She is Drew who taught her to love herself
She is everything
Every face, every smile, every word she may come upon
But is that enough?
Will it be enough to keep him from jumping, her from letting go,
Enough to be loved, deserved, treasured?
And I look through the cracked reflection and make out the faint image
Of a girl lost in thought, but enveloped in life
I see me
And maybe for the first time
I know who I am
