Known as Hitler's fireman, Model was a rapidly promoted wartime discovery in the german Army. His greatest acheivement was to restore stability to the Belorussian/Polish sector after the destruction of Army group center in June 1944. He then replaced Kluge in the west who was suspected By Hitler of being a traitor. After the allies crossed the Rhine in April 1945, Model found himself encircled in the Rhur and shot himself.
