Grilled Ham and Pears with Maple Glaze

Recipe by: Athens Banner Herald

9 Points Per Serving

I got this recipe from a local news paper - Athens Banner Herald. It's very tasty and quick. I cooked the pears and the ham on my George Foreman (took about 7 minutes all totaled, 1-2 min for the pears & 5 min for the ham). Being careful not to burn the ham I basted it only for the last minute of cooking. Will try with pork chops next time (as suggested at end of original recipe) From: California Pear Advisory Board

6 Tablespoons pure maple syrup

1/4 cup butter

2 Tablespoons yellow mustard

3/4 teaspoon ground allspice

2 large, ripe Bartlett pears, cored and sliced 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick

4 to 6 ham steaks, about 1/2 inch thick

Prepare grill for medium-hot cooking. In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, butter, mustard and allspice; cook over low heat for about 5 minutes. Place pear slices on grill over medium-hot coals (or under medium-hot broiler) for about 2 minutes per side, basting with maple glaze during cooking. Remove from grill and keep warm. Cook ham steaks on grill for about 5 minutes per side, or until heated through and lightly browned, basking with glaze one or twice. Place ham on platter top with grilled pears. Drizzle glaze over top. Pork chops may be substituted for ham; use similar amount of pork and thickness and increase grilling time to 10 - 12 minutes per side.

Makes 4-6 servings.
