Stork Club logo
the young and somewhat famous at the Stork Club, 1948 The Stork Club is where Holden said (p. 73) you could find movie stars and other famous people. He was right. Here are Scotty Beckett (Our Gang/Little Rascals comedies) and Betty Sullivan (Ed's daughter) at the Stork Club in 1948. Check out the stork flower holder.

The 8 May 2000 New Yorker magazine had a short article (on p. 118) about the Stork Club. It was owned by Sherman Billingsley. It "began as a humble speakeasy, with underworld backing," but became a place of "privilege and abundance." Billingsley "insured the loyalty of his famous clients by often allowing them to eat free," as well as giving them assorted gifts.
