Behind the Tree at Rockefeller Plaza
Every winter, they put a huge Christmas tree up on street level,
right behind the big Prometheus statue. Whenever you see
photos of the tree at Rockefeller Plaza, it looks very
densely thick with branches.
I was at the NBC
store, on the second floor,
and noticed we were right near the tree. As you can see, the tree is huge
(compare it to the guy standing under it),
but I was surprised by how sparse it is. Of course, this makes more sense.
Trees only grow the branches they can use for photosynthesis. This is
the sort of view of the tree that I think Holden would care about: what
something is really like, not only the prettiest view of it.
