"Dia!" Kaisa screeched.
"What?" Dia asked, wiping her mouth.
"What have you done?" Kaisa yelled.
"I was hungry," Dia said sheepishly.
"But look who you killed!"
"It's just a guy . . ."
"Here, look now." Kaisa formed a ball of light in her hand that lit up the alley.
"Oops," said Dia. Dreama walked up behind the 2 of them.
"You didn't," she said in amazement.
"I did," Dia cried.
"You didn't."
"I did."
"You didn't."
"I did."
"You didn't."
"I did, alright? I killed him! I killed Kevin Richardson!"
"Oh, man," Dreama groaned.
"I didn't mean to," Dia said as she knelt don next to the man, who was lying, pale-faced, on the hard gravel. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, brushing her hand against his cheek.
"I suppose I could revive him," Kaisa said, putting her hand on Dia's shoulder.
"Would you?" Dia asked, looking up at the spellcaster.
"Sure. Ready for a friend, Dreama?" Kaisa said, laughing lightly.
"Bring on the disciple," Dreama joked, leaning against the wall. Dia joined her and the 2 of them watched Kaisa work. She took 4 candles out of her bag and placed them at Kevin's feet, head, and sides. After sprinkling certain herbs around his body, she started chanting a spell:
Reverse your path
Enter the realm of the living
Fight the cold current of death
And move towards life
Draw strength from the light
And forsake the dark
Arise dead spirit
Rise to the surface
Awake o sleeping soul
A spirit rose from the dead man's body. The spirit opened his eyes and looked at Dia and Dreama.
"Hi," the two said in unison.
"Shh!" Kaisa hissed. She waved her hands in different patterns over the candles.
"What's she doing?" Kevin whispered to Dia and Dreama.
"She's raising the dead," Dreama whispered.
"Is she crazy?" he asked.
"You're living proof," Dia said.
"Bad pun," Dreama commented.
"Sorry."
"What do you mean I'm 'living proof'?" Kevin asked, confused.
"Look at the body," Dia said. Kevin went over behind Kaisa and peered over her shoulder. Then he went back over to the two against the wall.
"That's me," he said, completely unfazed.
"And you're not the least bit scared?" Dreama asked.
"No, but I am kind-of confused," he answered.
"Let's wait until Kaisa's done, and then we'll explain," Dia said. "I want you as a friend and not as an enemy for as long as possible."
"Huh?" Kevin said, confused.
"Nothing," Dia and Dreama said in unison. After watching Kaisa for a few minutes, Kevin's body vanished.
"Cool," he said, with eyes wide. After Kaisa packed up her stuff, she came over to them.
"Who wants to explain?" she asked.
"Dia?" Dreama said.
"No," Dia said, firmly. "I'm gonna have to explain this to the rest of the band, so you two have to explain it to him."
"But it was your fault," Dreama protested. Dia crossed her arms stubbornly crossed her arms.
"Fine. I'll explain it," Kaisa said. She turned to Kevin. "Okay, here's the deal." She explained to him about her being a spellcaster, Dreama being a spirit, and Dia being a vampire. Kevin took it surprisingly well. Then, she told him about Dia killing him in the back alley because she hasn't eaten for weeks. After explaining how Kaisa revived him, everything was quiet.
"So," Kevin said to Dia, breaking the awkward silence, "you killed me?"
"Yeah," Dia said, hanging her head. "I'm really sorry."
"That's okay," he said, "but what about the others?"
"We have to go talk to them," Dia said. "Do you know where they are?"
"Yeah, follow me." Kevin walked out of the alley and towards the door of he hotel next to it. He reached for the handle, but he fell right through the door. Kaisa opened the door and the three of them followed Kevin in.
"You have to be careful," Dreama warned. "You don't want people seeing you do that."
"How do I stop it?" he asked as the reached the elevator.
"Well," Kaisa said as the got in (it was empty), "right now, you're invisible to everyone else but us. What floor?"
"Why? 12," he said. Kaisa pushed a button and the elevator started to go up. They all shrugged.
"Dunno, but you can make yourself visible when you want to," Dia said. "Dreama will teach you that." The elevator stopped, the doors opened and they walked out.
"What about you?" Kevin asked Dia.
"What about me?" Dia said as they followed him down the hall.
"I mean, where are the fangs? And why isn't your face incredibly pale?"
"My fangs come and go as I please," Dia explained, "and about the paleness, well . . . not much that people say about vampires is true. The whole sun-thing is, but Kaisa, here, conjured up a ring that allows me to go out in the daytime as long as I wear sunglasses around high-noon."
"Oh, cool," Kevin said. When they reached his hotel room, he tried to knock on the door, but Kaisa stopped him.
"Can't do that just yet," she said. She knocked on the door and Dreama made herself invisible.
"Just hang back and watch," Dreama said to Kevin. "Don't go near them."
"Why?" he asked, confused.
"Trust me," she whispered.
"Who is it?" a voice asked.
"A friend," Dia said. The door opened and a tall blonde stuck his head out.
"Who are you?" Nick asked.
"I need to talk to all of you." Dia said. She glanced at Kaisa, who nodded. Dia flicked her hand in Nick's direction.
"Sure, come on in," he said. Opening the door wide, he let the four of them in (though he could only see two). They walked into the room and sat down on the couch. The room was large. It had two beds, a bathroom, a windowsill, a couch, a dresser and mirror, and a TV.
"Go get everyone," Kaisa instructed Nick. He smiled, nodded and left the room.
"Brian's gonna blow his top," Kevin said. He was sitting in front of Dia on the floor. Dreama was next to him. "Just a warning."
"What about the others?" Dreama asked.
"AJ will start asking question galore, Howie probably won't believe you, and god knows what Nick will do."
"Oh man," Dia groaned. All of a sudden, Nick came back into the room, followed by Brian, AJ and Howie.
"I couldn't find Kevin," he said as they all sat down.
"Who are you?" Howie asked.
"I'm Kaisa, this is Dia and . . ." Kaisa caught herself, "that's it."
"Well, I'm Nick and this is Howie, Brian and AJ," Nick said, pointing to each one in turn.
"So, what did you drag us out of bed for?" Brian asked. Dia looked at her watch, it was 1:30 AM.
"Maybe this can wait until morning," Dia said, standing up.
"Don't even think about it," Kaisa said, pulling her back down.
"You already got us out of bed, so speak," Brian said, testily.
"Fine," Dia said. "Umm, I've got some bad news and some 'okay' news."
"Let's take the bad news first," AJ said.
"Well, umm," she looked at Kevin, who smiled reassuringly. "I kind of killed, umm, Kevin." The four of them stared at Dia, wide eyed.
"By 'kind of' you mean someone else was in on it?" Nick asked, glancing at Kaisa.
"No! Hell no! By 'kind-of' I mean he's not completely dead."
"My cousin's dead?" Brian asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Well, sort of," Dia started to explain.
"You little . . ." He lunged at her and she instinctively brought her hands up to her face to protect herself, but she didn't need to. Brian was pushed to the floor, and he looked up, stunned. Kevin stood there, in full view . . . of everyone.
"I thought you were . . ." AJ started.
"I was, I mean I am," Kevin corrected himself.
"How'd you learn to appear so fast?" Dia asked.
"I dunno. I just wanted to stop him from hurting you over a simple mistake and I suddenly became solid," he said. Dia smiled at him and looked at Dreama.
"Let them see you," Kaisa told the spirit. Dreama appeared on the floor and the four guys gasped.
"How could you call her murdering you a simple 'mistake'?" Brian asked, glaring at Dia venomously. Now it was Kevin's turn to explain the whole alley situation. When he finished, everyone was silent. Dia, Kaisa, Dreama and Kevin all looked at one another.
"Well," Dreama said, "strike one, Brian already flew off the handle. What about the others?"
"I don't believe this," Howie finally squeaked out. "This can't be real. Wait! It's all a dream, isn't it? Of course it is! It has to be . . ." He continued to ramble on.
"Strike 2," Kaisa said.
"How did this happen? Is this real? What's going to happen to Kevin? What's happening to the group? Is everyone insane?" AJ blurted out questions like a machine gun.
"Strike 3," Kevin said. Dia stood up and let loose a high-pitched whistle. Everyone shut up and turned to look at her.
"Look, I know this is all my fault-" she started.
"Dia, no," Kevin interrupted. She held up a hand to silence him.
"And I'm willing to face the consequences. I didn't know it was Kevin until after I killed him and before you ask, no, I don't kill for fun. Kevin is the first ,b>person I have killed.
"What about Dreama?" Brian asked.
"My sire killed her, not me. Then I killed him." Dia sighed and looked at all of them. "Look, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help Kevin. I don't care what it does to the rest of my life, I owe him this."
"You've already done enough!" Brian snapped. "Just leave. We can do this without you."
"You can't do this without us," Kaisa protested. "Without me, Kevin wouldn't be here, without Dreama, he wouldn't know what he's doing, and without Dia, he'd never be able to become fully solid ever again."
"Leave," Brian ordered her. Dia sighed, tears welling up in her eyes. She nodded and looked at Kaisa, Dreama, and Kevin.
"I'm sorry," she whispered to Kevin. She opened the door and was gone.
