Chapter 4

"Dia! Wait up!" Dia turned at the sound of Brian's voice.

"What are you doing?" she asked as her caught up with her.

"I'm coming," he said.

"No, you're not."

"Look, he's my cousin, so I'm coming," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. "And there's nothing you can do about it."

"Wanna bet?" she asked, stepping closer to him.

"C'mon," he begged, "I want to help Kevin."

"Fine, just be careful." The 2 of them walked in silence for a while, until Brian spoke up.

"I heard about your sister," he said, quietly.

"Nice conversation starter," Dia said sarcastically.

"Sorry," he apologized. Dia sighed.

"No, don't be. It was my fault."

"If you don't mind, though, I have a question about it."

"Shoot," Dia said, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.

"Why did she turn evil?" Brian said. "I mean, how?"

"I don't know. For some, it just happens, usually over a period of time. For others, it never does."

"Oh, okay."

"Why'd you want to know? Afraid I was going to turn evil on you?" she grinned.

"Well . . ." he said, jokingly.

"I won't, don't worry. If I did though, you'd be dead before you knew it," Dia joke. Brian backed away a little. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding."

"Okay," he said, smiling. They stopped in front of a gray concrete building.

"Here we are," Dia said. They walked down a set of steps and Brian opened the door.

"Ladies first," he said, bowing slightly.

"Suck up," Dia mumbled, tapping his head as she walked in the door. The room was dark.

"Hello?" Dia called. The dim lights went on and they could see rows and shelves of herbs, artifacts, and other things.

"Hey Dia!" They both turned to the cashier counter to see a 5'9, blonde haired, brown-eyed girl standing there.

"Hey, Saph! What's up?" Dia asked, walking over to the counter.

"Nothing interesting. What can I do for you?" Saph asked.

"I need these," Dia said, handing her the list. Saph read it over and started to walked around the store, gathering items. Brian went over to Dia.

"Dia?" he whispered.

"Yes, she's a vampire, Brian," Dia said, smiling.

"Yo, D, who you talking to?" Saph asked, coming into our aisle. She froze when she saw who it was.

"And a huge fan," Dia told Brian. Brian smiled knowingly and walked up to Saph.

"Hi, I'm Brian Littrell," he said, taking her hand, "and you are?"

"L-L-Lin-dsay," Saph squeaked out.

"Saph!" Dia yelled in shock.

"Saph," she corrected. "My name is Saph." After that, neither of them knew what to say.

"Do you have everything?" Dia asked, breaking the awkward silence.

"Umm, yeah," Saph said. She went over to the counter and put everything in a bag. "Here."

"What do I owe?" Dia asked, taking out her wallet.

"Nothing," Saph said. "It's free."

"You sure?"

"Yeah. I'll see you around, okay?"

"Kay," Dia said as she and Brian walked out the door. "Bye!" The two of them walked up the steps and went back that way they had come, in silence.

"How come she said her name was Lindsay?" Brian asked, breaking the silence. Dia just shrugged and looked down at the ground. "C'mon, tell me." Dia sighed.

"Because her name is Lindsay," Dia said. "Or at least, it was."

"What do you mean 'was'?"

"When Spike transformed someone, he gave them a new name," Dia explained. "His favorites had names that resembled jewels. Sapphire, Emerald, Amethyst . . ."

". . . Diamond," Brian interrupted. Dia looked at him, then focused back on the road in front of her.

"Diamond. His favorites went from most precious to least precious. After Spike died, we were so used to the names that they just stuck."

"You were his favorite?" Brian asked, amazed.

"Yeah, unfortunately."

"How'd you kill him?"

"He told me everything. I watched him train, fight, kill, the works. I learned his weaknesses and made sure I had them memorized. With the help of a few others, including Saph, we killed his outside 'security' and I killed him."

"And you did that because he killed Dreama right?"

"Yeah."

"Can I ask you something?" Brian asked.

"Sure," Dia said.

"What's your real name?" Dia stopped and looked down at her hands.

"I don't know if-" she began.

"Please," he begged, taking her hand. She looked up at his pleading blue eyes and sighed.

"Alexandria," she said as they continued walking. "People used to call me Alex."

"Alex," he repeated. "I like that."

"So did I." By then, they'd reached her apartment building. They took the elevator up and went to her room. Brian was about to open it, but Dia stopped him. She needed something to break the ice before they went inside. Putting a finger to her lips, she knocked.

"Room service," she said in a false, squeaky accent.

"Room service in an apartment building?" they heard Nick ask. Brian covered his mouth to keep from laughing.

"Room service," Dia repeated.

"No, thank you," Kaisa said. Dreama poked her head through the wall and Dia motioned for her to be quiet. Dreama snickered and disappeared back inside.

"Want mint on pillow?" Dia asked.

"Umm . . . no . . ." Howie said.

"Want me on pillow?"

"What?!?" AJ said.

"Want personal vibrator?" she said, breaking up the syllables to go with the accent.

"What the-" The door swung open. Brian and Dia smiled at the bewildered Nick.

"You!" he exclaimed in shock.

"Me!" Dia said, mimicking his tone. She and Brian stepped around him and entered her apartment.

"I should have known," Kaisa said, rolling her eyes.

"I did know," Dreama said, proudly. Everyone rolled their eyes.

"You get everything?" Kaisa asked.

"Right here," Dia said, tossing her the bag.

"Great, now all we need to do is clear out a space." She looked around the room.

"Let's move all the couches to the side," AJ suggested. Dia and Kaisa willed the couches to the sides of the room.

"Cool," Nick mumbled to himself. Kaisa knelt down and laid the book on the floor. Opening the bag, she dumped out the contents. While reading the directions, she put the candles in a star shape and the incense in between each of them.

"Shouldn't we try this on Dreama first?" Howie asked.

"Gee, thanks for volunteering me," Dreama said, sarcastically.

"We probably should," Kaisa said. "I'm almost 100% sure it'll work and I don't want to waste it on Kevin yet because it's 1 AM and he has a concert tonight."

"True," Dia said. Dreama groaned in protest. "Don't worry you'll be fine."

"Alright," Dreama said. "What do I have to do?"

"Lay down in the middle, here," Kaisa demanded. Dreama did what she was told. As Kaisa began the spell, the guys stood back and watched. Then the intercom buzzed. Dia sprang for it, so it didn't interrupt the spell.

"Yeah?" she said into the buzzer.

"There's a lady by the name of Saph that is requesting to come up to your apartment," the doorman said.

"Send her up," Dia said. She turned the intercom off.

"I wonder why she's here," Dreama commented. Dia shrugged and they waited. After a few minutes, there was a knick at the door. Dia opened it and Saph stumbled in, her face and arms covered with bruises.

"Oh, my god . . ." Dreama gasped as Saph fell to the floor.
