Chapter 5

"Who did this to you?" Kaisa asked, laying a washcloth on Saph's forehead.

"Clovin's gang," she said, supplying a bruised, but very thankful smile for her friend.

"Why?" AJ asked.

"They've been threatening me for weeks," she explained. "They know I helped with the Destruction."

"The Destruction?" Howie echoed.

"That's rumored name for how we destroyed Spike's 'empire'," Kaisa said (they had filled the rest of the BSB in on the story when Dia and Brian had gone to pick up the herbs and junk). He nodded understandingly.

"Okay, I really hate to change the subject," Dreama said, "but we didn't do the spell yet."

"It can wait," Dia said. "I've got work to do."

"Wait a minute," Dreama said. "You're not . . ." Dia didn't stick around for the rest of her comment. She went to her bedroom and pulled a large, wooden trunk out from under her bed.

"What's that?" Dia turned in surprise to see Brian standing behind her. She looked past him and saw that the bedroom door was open. She willed it shut and locked.

"Kaisa will freak if she sees that I still have most of these," Dia said. She wiped off the lid of the trunk, revealing a pentagram carving on it. Placing her fingers on certain spots on the lock, she closed her eyes and it popped open. Brian let out a low whistle. Dia opened the trunk, revealing a tangle of jewelry.

"What's jewelry going to do?" Brian asked. Ignoring him, she took the shelf of jewelry out and placed it on her bed. Going back to the trunk, she removed a velvet cloth, revealing a large variety of weapons, ranging from stakes to halberds. "Whoa."

"Whoa is right," Dia said. Rummaging through the trunk, she took out a stake, a crossbow and some bolts. After searching for a few more minutes, she found another box of bolts. Strapping the box and stake onto her belt, she grabbed the crossbow and stood up. She threw everything back into the trunk and shoved it under the bed. Taking a deep breathe, she turned to face Brian.

"Are you seriously going to fight them?" he asked, looking over her 'suit of armor'. She nodded.

"I have no choice," she said. "If I don't, they'll follow us."

"You'll get yourself killed," he said, trying to convince her out of going.

"I'm already dead, Brian." He glared at her, knowing she know what he'd meant. She sighed. "I'll gather up the others beforehand," she promised, putting a hand on his arm. "I'll be fine, I swear." She looked up into his eyes and saw nothing but concern for her safety. He brought his hand up slowly and caressed her cheek.

Before anything else could happen, she walked past him and opened the door. He sighed and followed her into the main room where everyone was waiting.

"Dreama," Dia said. The 7 of them snapped to attention. "Get everyone on the tour bus and out of here as quickly as possible without looking suspicious. I'll meet you guys at the next stop. I'm going to find the others, then Clovin."

"I'm going with you," Saph said, trying to sit up. She got dizzy and fell back down.

"No, you're staying here," Dia said.

"How will you know where to find us?" Howie asked.

"Don't worry," Dia said, smirking. "I have my ways."

"But you'll get yourself killed," Kevin argued. She looked at Brian.

"Family thinks too much alike." With that, Dia grabbed her black leather jacket and her keys.

"Good luck," Kaisa said.

"Kill one for me," Dreama joked, uneasily. Dia smiled and opened the door. She had reached the elevator when someone called her name.

"Dia!" Brian called. She didn't turn around. "Dia!" She couldn't respond to him. She'd break down. "Alex!" She froze. Slowly, she turned to face him. He was smiling nervously. "Good luck."

"Thanks," Dia said quietly. The elevator opened and she stepped on. The doors closed heavily.
