Sebrena walked into the bookstore, and headed towards the back. In the far corner, she pulled aside a wall panel, looking around first, and walked into the magic shop.
"Hey Sebrena. What shall you be needing today?" asked Clara, the keeper of the shop. Clara was an old woman, and the shop had been in her family for generations.
"Hey, Clara. Let's see I need," said Sebrena, pulling a piece of folded paper, "mouse fur, a salamander tail, 4 bee stingers, and 4 rose thorns."
"Sounds like you've got demon troubles. Serafina searching for Wormwood, and Cal getting the other four ingredients?" asked Clara, walking around the little room, taking things from jars.
"You always know, don't you?"
"It's not that hard once you get the knack," said Clara. "But you're always wrapped up in your thunderstorms."
"So sue me," Sebrena commented, shrugging.
"Here you go. Tell Serafina if she can find any extra Wormwood, send some to me. The stuff I have is getting a little stale and ineffective. But that's our little secret. We don't need any of my customers finding out that I'm selling them more Wormwood than they really need." Clara handed Sebrena the bag, as another witch walked into the store.
"That comes to $15," said Clara. Sebrena pulled out the money and handed it to her.
"Hello Clara," said the witch. Sebrena moved around the witch and back into the bookstore, and headed to Serafina's.
Calysta walked up the steps of the warlock's house. He was a kind old man, and one of the few warlocks left in the world. She knocked on the door and waited. There was a scuffling inside, and soon, his maid came to open the door.
"Ah, hello Miss Calysta. Do you wish to see the master of the house?" she asked.
"Yes, I do," replied Calysta. She followed the maid through the mansion.
"Master Kanal, Miss Calysta is here to see you," said the maid.
"Thank you," said the old man, nodding to her. As the maid left the room, Kanal turned to Calysta. "And what shall you be needing today, Calysta?" Calysta pulled out a piece of paper.
"Let's see, I need 4 humming bird feathers, a sprig of Poison Ivy, a chipmunk claw, and 4 goldfish scales," said Calysta, reading off the paper.
"Demon troubles? You now how to get to the ingredient room don't you?"
"Yes. I've been there enough times before," said Calysta.
"Good. I'm sure I can trust you. Besides, I'll know if you took anything that you didn't ask for. I'll just put it on your tab," said Kanal.
"How big is my tab now?" asked Calysta. The old man chuckled.
"I have no idea. I guess I should start adding them up before I forget to." Calysta left the room and walked down the hall to the staircase. She walked silently down the stairs and into the cellar. Calysta grabbed a small bag and gathered the ingredients she needed. On the way out, she thanked Mr. Kanal, and then headed to Serafina's.
"Come here, wormy, wormy, wormy," called Serafina, walking through the underbrush, Kaisa following. "Oh come on. I can't wait all day." Serafina sat down on a rock and looked around the forest. . A small brown worm inched onto the rock.
"Ah, there you are," said Serafina, picking up the worm. "Do you know where there's some Wormwood?" The worm wriggled around in her hand. To most it was normal behavior, but to Serafina, it was communication. "That's quite a ways. Are you sure that there's no other Wormwood around here?"
The worm twisted again. "Fine, then. Let's go." Serafina got up off the rock and whistled to Kaisa. Kaisa came over and Serafina mounted her, still holding the worm. Serafina urged Kaisa through the forest. After about a fifteen-minute ride, the worm moved again. Kaisa stopped, and Serafina dismounted. She put the worm down on the ground, and let it wander through the bushes. She carefully followed the worm. It wrapped itself around a small plant and signaled to Serafina.
Serafina uprooted the plant, and placed it in her bag. "Thank you very much." The worm crawled off into the bushes. Serafina remounted Kaisa, and rode home.
