Name:Jill Alderson (nee TucK)
I was a student for about 3 years up to the British leaving India in 1947. My father was Garrison Engineer of Deolali in the army during that time . I was only 10 when I left Barnes and as I was a day scholar. However for many years I have tried unsuccessfully to trace Lucy Morris who, with other members of her family, were boarders.I would love to learn where Lucy is, but of course she would have a different name now if she got married. My name was Jill Tuck in those days.
If anyone reading this has any information on the Morris family I would be forever grateful,
Here's hoping,

"Noel Jones attended Barnes school from the age of 6 till he left school in 1952. There were 3 brothers all in Barnes. Ron was the eldest, then my husband Noel Jones and the younger brother was Oscar Jones. Ron is in Canada, Oscar is in Brisbane, Australia and Noel is here in the UK. My husband was head boy of the school and he was also voted best boy for 3 years running (quite an achievement). We visited the school in 1991 and in fact the headmaster, Mr Baker, put us up in the school for 3 days. We stayed in the Medical Block which was converted into a special visitors suite and in fact Mr Baker treated us like royalty. Noel was the guest of honour for their Founders Day Service on the 26th January and had to give out the prizes and they also had a dance for all the staff and senior boys and girls. We certainly enjoyed ourselves."

I was born in Barnes where my parents met and spent many years. No child could hope for a better place to grow up. My best friend was Chris Lal; sadly he passed away very young, after his family migrated to Australia. Growing up we had lots of friends and 'gilli danda' occupied many an evening!
My first brush with death was in the Duck Pond! My brother, Jamil, is terrified of water and had brought old bus inner tubes to float in ... Gladys, Angie and Michael John took us swimming where they used to take my sister, Gillian and I, on their backs. Well they put us in the shallow end and swam off to the deep end. My brother, in his infinite wisdom, put us two little kids in an inner tube ... which, naturally, was too big for us. We slipped right through and I remember thinking to myself as I went down, "So this is how its going to end." I must have been 5 or 6 years old. I kept one hand straight as I went down. Luckily Michael John saw this happening and he ran across from the deep end with Gladys and Angie following and they pulled us out. Boy, did my brother get a yelling that day!! Now I smile when I think of that day ... at the time I was sure I would die!
Michael John had a superb collection of comics - Superman, Batman, Have Gun Will Travel - all nicely bound in hardcover. I would spend hours sitting next to Mr Fernie - who would be puffing on his pipe - and reading and re-reading the comics.
I now live in Markham, Ontario in Canada. I often think back to those wonderful days of picnics and games (the Chinese funeral - Its A Sad And Solemn Occasion - down under the mango tree near the duck pond on a full moon night!) and entertainment without electronics. It was a lot more fun then. I wish my kids had the opportunity to grow up in the same atmosphere as we had.
Please visit my web page on Barnes which is really a history of the school as written by Mr W R Cole
Would love to hear from you.
