The Pillar

standing tall and proud
the pillar of society
wreathed in fronds of respect
clasps his hands about her throat
'accidents happen'
and the pillar falls
with a deafeningly silent roar

Author's Note: i just read an article about the police chief in washington who shot himself and his wife in a parking lot ... lots of domestic violence in her attempts to get a divorce ... their children in another car close by knew their father had killed their mother as soon as they heard the shots ...
