EQUAL RIGHTS

EQUAL RIGHTS?
I have a beef with the way America is run these days. We claim that everyone is equal, and I quote:

"all men are created equal.."

Yes we claim everyone is equal, but that is in no way true at all. Some are smarter than others, stronger, more calm, easier to get along with, and just flat out better people. Men are paid as much as women in the armed service, yet women are not permitted to fight on the front lines like men, women are paid as much as men in labor jobs, even when some women can not do as much as the stronger men. I am not trying to send out disrespect to women only, some women are better labor workers than the males, so those women should get paid more. All I`m trying to say is that higher wages should be distributed to the better workers.

If we claim all people are equal, why do some states still have affirmative action programs? If everyone is equal we shouldn`t need programs that pick minorities over whites, even if the white is better for the job. If a minority is better than a white that is applying for a job, the minority should get the job. It`s as easy as that. Some may claim that there are still racist whites all over the U.S. that will not hire any minorities at all. Listen to this; if you are a businessman, your goal is to gain money. Why would you hire a less qualified person to do a job when someone of color is better? That would hurt your company and your earnings. It just makes sense that companies should be able to hire as they choose to, and the reason why is because they will pick the better man for the job, and that`s how it should be.

I had a small debate with someone on this topic over ICQ. This began as just a questioning of opinions, but in the end I had to let this person who I was questioning see the light. Therefore, it turned into a small debate. I will post the quotes of our chat up here, and add a little commentary to them to explain my side further. It may not be fair, but this is my page. I am -=Don Killuminati=- and my debate partner is Shifty.

-=Don Killuminati=-: what do you think about women not being able to be on the front lines of combat, yet they are paid just as much as male soldiers?

Shifty: i think it's wrong because if they wanna be in the armed forces and they are brave enough to do it then they should have just enough opportunity as men. but the gov't thinks women can't handle as much as men so they pull em back

In a way, he has a strong point, the government does not let women fight on the front lines of combat, and there is nothing women can do about it. I don`t understand this government policy though, because after all, we are all equal. If the men are required to do the actual ground fighting, why are they paid just as much as women who don`t engage enemies on the ground? I say if a woman wants to be paid just as much as a man in the armed forces, she should be able to sign up for combat. I will say that women in the air force who pilot aircraft should be paid just as much as the men who are pilots. They are on equal levels, flying fighter jets, recognizance jets, and cargo planes. The men who are not in actual combat situations such as military doctors and nurses, should be paid just as much as the women in the same fields.

-=Don Killuminati=-: aight... what do you think about the affirmative action program? Which chooses blacks and other minorities over whites, even if the white person applying for the job is more qualified?

Shifty: i think that the government does that because if they don't then lots of racism lawsuits would come up in court

He brings up another strong point here. I had never thought of this issue that way, but he gave me something to think about. If the companies do as they should, and hire the best person for the job then lawsuits shouldn`t be a problem. The minority turned down for the job can sue as much as he or she likes, but the judge will throw it out when he sees the qualifications of the worker hired in place of the minority. If anything, whites should be able to sue the government for being turned down for work if they are more qualified for the job than the person hired in their place. If you were a cop, risking your life every day, who would you want as your partner? Someone who is more qualified or someone who was hired because of affirmative action?

-=Don Killuminati=-: you don`t see exactly the way I do on this issue, but it`s always better to have more than one point of view.... What do you think about common jobs? like restaurant jobs, where women can`t do as much labor as men,.. the point I`m tryin to make is that equal rights are wrong, because in a capitalist society, it`s the best man for the job, shouldn`t be any other way..

Shifty: right, but in a democracy everyone has to be given a FAIR AND EQUAL chance

Yea, everyone has a fair and equal chance, BUT THAT IS NOT TRUE! Not everyone has a fair and equal chance when we have programs like affirmative action. If someone is hired because of his or her race, it is not "fair and equal." You can`t deny that.

In the end, equal rights is a joke, it`s unfair and just flat out stupid. I believe everyone should have the same rights, but when it comes to jobs and the workforce, equal rights just don`t work. Equal opportunity does. We live in a capitalist society, which means everyone is about the money. The best man for the job is how it should be. Whoever is more qualified should be making the dollars.

Whatever happened to freedom? Companies should be able to hire whoever they want, they should not be regulated by the government. The government steps in companies and looks at how many minorities are currently employed. Well maybe the reason there are not as many minorities as whites employed is that the employer hires the best man for the job. Maybe some places have all minority workers, and the reason would be is because the minorities are the best for the job. If we are going to have an affirmative action program, it should work for all races. Think about black owned and operated companies. What if there was a white owned and operated company? That company would be labeled racist. Hell, some people might even label me a racist for writing this. I`m no racist, I`m just a man with common sense.

I have no idea what my next rant is going to be about yet, I have a few thoughts right now, but I haven`t decided yet. So until next time, this is J-Dub signin out, peace.
