Mya Nicolosi

This is the story of my beautiful girl. Mya was born on February 16, 1999. She was my whole world. I was a single mother working full time, going to school, and taking care of my beautiful binky baby! She was so excited about life and lived every moment to the fullest. She had a mother's instinct built right in, I could see it whenever she played with her baby dolls she loved so much. I remember one day when I went to pick her up from daycare, they said she didn't take a nap again! She didn't want to miss a thing they said. Instead she helped all the little boys and girls to sleep sitting right beside them, patting them on their backs until they fell asleep. Mya always had a smile on her face, she was always happy. Her Papa and her were the best of friends. She had him wrapped around her tiny little finger. He gave her anything she asked for and with a face like that.. who wouldn't??

Mya's story

It was four days after her second birthday like any other day. We got up and I sat her down in front of Sessame Street with her cheerios while I went to get ready for school, only minutes later the house got really quiet. The quiet when you know something just isn't right. I went out to the living room and I didn't see her. I knew then..I got this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I ran to the arcadia door and found her in the pool. I pulled her out and screamed as loud and as hard as I could, ran back in the house and called 911 and began CPR. The Police and the firefighters were there in seconds....but they could not save my little girl. My beautiful little person, my Angel, the one that I carried for 9 months was gone. My whole world came crashing down and my everything was gone in seconds. Just seconds! The reason I am sharing this with you is I don't want what happened to my little beautiful binky baby to happen to your child. Because it does only take seconds for you to turn away to answer a phone call, or the door, or check on your other child and that is when it happens. I hope by sharing Mya's story you will take the extra steps necessary for drowning prevention. Get a pool fence, door locks, protect your doggy doors, and get door alarms. Educate yourself on all of the dangers in and around your home, pools only being one of them. Do not forget about the other dangerous areas of the home such as bath tubs or water left in a bucket. And get certified in CPR.

My Binky Baby

Since Mya's return to heaven I have been dedicated to stop Child drownings. I have become the Faciliator for a support group for Families Affected by Child Drowning under the wings of the MISS Foundation. I work closely with the Phoenix Fire Department, The Drowning Coalition of Central Arizona, and Water Watchers. I try to educate parents and the community on how quickly drownings can occur and that these tragic events do happen to loving and competent parents, so we don't lose another Angel.

My Binky Baby

Everything I do, I still do for my little Angel. Now I do it in her memory. Mya J. Nicolosi February 16,1999- February 20,2001 Forever Loved!...Forever Missed!!!
