STEWART FAMILY

"The Stewart surname is found in Ireland as early as 1682. It is classified as of occupational origin, taken from the trade or profession of the original bearer. It is also found in England as early as 1275. The name is also of occupational origin in England. This was one of the ways that family names were formed so that the Stewart family, like others in their community could carry their name with distinction. Primarily, the name is found throughout Scotland. In the coat of arms, the color Or (gold) stands for Generosity and Elevation of Mind. The color Gules (red) stands for Military Foritude and Magnanimity."
