Taxco

This was our first trip in our car. Taxco is the oldest mining town in North America (1500's). There was gold but silver was, and still is, where the town earned most of its income. In the 1700's, a French miner came and made a ton of money so he paid the town back by building a very ornate church, which became the center of town.

Enjoying lunch

We stopped for lunch on the way into the city center where we ate enchiladas on freshly made tortillas. With a nice view out the window.

Centro Streets

The zocalo, or town square, is up the hillside. The streets are narrow and straight up! They all are paved with little stones and have this design all the way up. It is very "old world".

Iglesia de Santa Prisca

This is the church that can be seen on the hillside in many of the pictures.
