Voyager fire steel - an oval fire steel with one end forged into a screwdriver. It is called a "Voyager" fire steel at the historical reenactments across the country. Based on originals in the collection of The Museum of the Fur Trade. This style of fire steel was primarily produced by the Hudson Bay Company, and was traded throughout the territory they covered. It was produced from the 1860's up to 1900. It probably existed earlier, but I have not found documentation for any earlier examples. Existing artifacts have been collected from HBC descendants, and from local tribes throughout Canada, especially around the Great Lakes Fur Trade area. This fire steel measures 3 1/4" by 1 1/4" by 1/8th inch thick.
