Disinherited
Part One
When Logan arrives home Rory meets him with a radiant smile and a holds him close for a long embrace. She takes his briefcase from him and sets it by the door as he removes his jacket and hangs it in the closet.
“I have some news Logan.”
“Well don’t keep me in suspense, Ace,” he says knowing what the news is ahead of time having seen her glowing twice before.
“I’m pregnant,” she says.
Logan pulls her into his arms and holds her; then there is a scream from the other room.
They both run down the hall to three year old, Lori’s room. She is lying on the bed with her eyes closed screaming.
“Daddy, daddy the bug,”
Logan goes to her and hugs her shaking her gently to wake her.
“You are having a bad dream, sweetie,” he says in her ear.
She opens her eyes and hugs him tightly.
Rory watches from the door and feels someone pulling her hand; she turns to see Adriana (Anna).
“Is she having another bad dream,” the older girl asks with a disgusted look on her face.
Rory tousles her chestnut tresses.
“Yea she’ll be fine, honey.”
She takes five year old Anna back to bed; and reads her a story while she is there.
A little while later Logan and Rory meet in the kitchen. She has him backed up against the sink. They are kissing intimately and thinking he may forego dinner but he loves her cooking so he decides to do the right thing.
“I didn’t get a chance to tell you I’m happy about the new baby,” he says smiling as she runs her fingers through his hair. The microwave beeps.
“You should eat your dinner; it’ll get cold fast now that it has been warmed.”
She removes herself from his arms and heads toward the bedroom, checking the hall to make sure no little eyes are watching she allows her shorts drop to the floor and she picks them up and moons him on the way down the hall.
“By the way, I am happy too,” she says with a grin, and “I‘ll be in the bedroom when you’re done, I can’t wait to celebrate,” she adds with a wink.
Ten years earlier

Finn, Colin and Stephanie think that if anyone can live without the obvious wealth then they can; they are two very intelligent, articulate people. So after the semester they leave Yale for good. They married in Vegas; Logan gets an office job, where the Huntzberger name still seems to help, and starts taking night classes to be a lawyer. Rory does freelance writing for several magazines. The times are tough since Logan isn’t used to being an average Joe. Rory’s experiences growing up in a single parent household came in handing when there was little food on the table.
Staying home with the kids hasn’t been what Rory had always dreamed of when she was growing up; but now days she wouldn’t have it any other way. She loves her girls and her husband; and they have traveled often having learned the hard way saving is better than credit card debt. The next day the phone rings the same time she hears Lori moving around after her nap. She grabs the phone and goes to make sure she is okay. Lori is sitting on the bed rubbing her eyes and she smiles when she sees Rory standing in the door Lori runs to her wrapping herself around her legs.
“When will the new baby be here?” she asks. Rory puts her hands to her lips to quiet her.
“Yes, who is this?” she says into the phone.
It’s Stephanie who is calling about their lunch the next day.
Rory explains to Lori about the baby after the call.
“Lori you won’t be able to hold the baby for almost a year.”
“Oh, mommy does it have to come from a long way?”
Rory smiles this wasn’t going to be easy.
“Sweetie the baby is here in my tummy, but it needs to grow before it can come out, okay?”
Anna comes out in the hall to hear them talking. The talk sounds interesting so she takes a sit beside Lori. Rory tousles her hair that is so like hers.
“Is it like planting a seed and growing a flower,?” Anna asks.
“Yes it is like that, very good Anna,” Rory smiles.
“Where does the seed come from?” Anna asks.
Rory looks at Anna thinking she knows something and that she better answer just right.
“Anna, daddy has the seed,”
“Oh,” is all she says then she wonders off with Lori who has already left the room.
Rory sighs.
A little bit later Lorelei shows up with Rory’s sister, Leah, who is almost ten years old.
“Hey mom, hi sis,” Rory says grinning.
Auburn haired Leah has Joshua’s green eyes and the Gilmore girl’s sense of humor and style; her café au laity skin is beautiful and Rory envies her olive coloring.
The two younger girls run to the door to see their grandma and aunt.
“Hey Leah, hi grandma,” Anna says.
They all hug and get ready to eat the lunch Rory has prepared.
Lorelei is leaving Anna with Rory and Logan for the weekend so her and hubby, Joshua, can take a trip.
After lunch Anna shows Leah were to put her things; she is using Anna’s room while Anna is staying in with Lori over the weekend.
“So Logan was okay with this, right?”
“Yea, but he’s a guy so he won’t remember until he gets home and sees Anna here.”
“I know they are gorgeous and sweet, but very forgetful,” blushes smiling.
“Oh how is Josh?” Rory laughs.
Lorelei tells her how busy Joshua has been working and traveling and how this weekend is something they really need.
Lorelei is still working for the Durham group; she only stayed home long
enough to have Leah and then went back to work. Rory and she have very different parenting styles it seems. Rory is more hands on, though Leah usually stays with relatives or at her friends until her mom or dad can pick her up; thanks to Joshua’s family and Emily. Rory’s grandfather, Richard died five years ago and Emily has started to see her old flame, John again.
Before Lorelei leaves that evening to meet Joshua; Logan comes home. Rory opens the door and he puts his arms around Rory not realizing he has an audience.
“Uh hem,” Rory says clearing her throat, “We have company, Logan.”
Logan smiles and Lori runs to hug him and Leah is right behind her.
“Hey, sis, “how are you” he says.
“Good Logan,” she says sounding all grown up.
Anna stands at a distance with her arms folded and Logan notices.
“What’s wrong Anna,” he says walking toward her.
“Don’t touch me, you hurt Mommy,” she says.
He looks questioningly at Rory, who just shrugs.
Lorelei bites her lips and has an idea where this could be going.
“You two were under the covers but daddy was on top of mommy and she was crying,” Anna says upset.
Lori hits Anna on the shoulder.
“Daddy wouldn’t hurt mommy, you’re mean,” then her eyes tear up and Rory picks her up.
“No hitting your sister,” she says spanking her firmly on the butt and shaking her head at her."
Lorelei just looks at Rory.
“When?” Logan asks
“This morning when I looked in the door.”
“Daddy wasn’t hurting me, Sweetie.” Rory says putting a pouting Lori down.
Rory takes Anna aside to give her an explanation.
Lorelei tries not to smile.
Rory and Anna go in the room to talk.
“Anna your dad would never hurt me, what you saw is something grownups do to make each other feel good. When you are older I will explain so you can understand okay; you need to remember to knock and not just come in the room, young lady.”
“I’m sorry Mom, I won’t do it again.”
“Was daddy planting more seed?”
Rory hesitates.
"We were just having fun, I wasn't crying,"
“But he wasn’t hurting you,”
“Now go tell daddy you’re sorry, okay,” Rory adds.’
“Okay mommy,” she says running out the door to give Logan a hug.
Lorelei suggests they get a lock on the door before she leaves with hugs all around. Rory and Logan agree kids’ seeing their parents make out isn’t the worst thing that could happen. They are usually careful but love between parents is not something that should be hidden from children. He and Rory run a very loving household. Logan never saw his parents being affectionate except when they had an audience and he refuses to be that way.
Rory explains to Logan about the questions Anna has been asking all day and how she was honest but trying to not give details.
“She does know you were planting seed in me.”
“What?” he says surprised.
“I could tell she knew something; so when she compared it to planting a plant earlier I agreed it was, and she ask if you provided the seed. Then this afternoon I find out she has seen us together.”
Logan shakes his head.
“Why did I think girls would be easy?” he laughs pulling her close after he shuts the door and turns up the baby monitors.
A month later Rory and Logan decide a weekend alone is what is needed for them. They enlist Stephanie to keep the girls. They drop them off late on a Thursday night so they can fly to Niagara Falls. It has been a while since they have had a few days alone and they are really looking forward to it; but Rory hesitates as they take the girls to the door. Logan sees that look in her eyes and he urges her on. He knows she loves her girls so much. Lori with her long blonde locks is in no hurry to leave Logan as she is wrapped around his leg so tight he can hardly walk, but he thinks it’s funny and he is laughing.
When they finally leave Stephanie’s Rory is very quiet, unusually so.
“They’ll be fine, Ace,” he says.
“I know I just miss them already.”
Rory touches her hand across the seat. He is sure he can change her mood but for now he leaves her with her thoughts temporarily.
