Meeting with the Future
Part 4-conclusion
The weekend, at Joshua’s beautiful home, Lorelei is very nervous about meeting his mother even though he insists she will love her. Lorelei spends the night the day before she is coming for dinner hoping to get comfortable in Joshua’s space.
Anne Galway is a regal lady, tall and elegant with blue gray eyes and silver hair; she has obvious high cheekbones but her skin is a beautiful caramel color which makes her eyes more shocking. Her ancestors are African as well as Cherokee and Italian. Joshua’s father who is deceased was Irish. She is very intelligent and everything Lorelei would expect from Joshua’s cultured family. Lorelei and Josh make dinner special for his mother and she loves it. They talk about Joshua as a boy and Lorelei asks lots of questions. His mother is thrilled to discuss her successful son, but she doesn’t overdue the bragging; the perfect lady.
Anne wants to know all about Lorelei and her family, without her usual candor Lorelei tells her all about her daughter and her family. Joshua corners her in the kitchen and tells her to relax. She explains about the situation with the magazine reporter where she was telling her about her mother in her usual colorful manner and how that all turned out. He understands her and even laughs about it with her, then they realize they better get back to their guest after several long kisses.
The rest of the weekend, they paint couple of rooms and spend time by the pool. They also attend several art galleries looking for paintings; Lorelei enjoys helping him and hope she has many chances to enjoy it with him. The night before Lorelei is going home Joshua asks her to move in with him, and she accepts. They are so busy it is a logical move as well an emotional one. Lorelei’s new job will take her all over the country and Joshua’s job has him traveling quite a bit.
The weekend after Lorelei finishes moving her things, Joshua asks her to marry him and she accepts. They are about to make love when he pops the question so they seal the answer by consummating their engagement; he gives her an antique two carat diamond ring that belonged to his grandmother.
Lorelei phones Rory on the way home from Joshua’s and tells her the news.
“I’m glad for you mom, he seems like a really sweet guy,” Rory says encouragingly.
“I want you and Logan to come over for a movie night before I sell the house,” she says, “I’m sure I will remind you again, but pencil me in on your calendar, please,” she adds
Rory agrees it is a great idea. Even Joshua has enjoyed movie night the few times he has participated with Lorelei.
The movie night with Logan and Rory doesn’t happen until after Lorelei actually sells the house. Everything is set and the snacks are out when someone knocks on the door. Joshua is in the kitchen and Logan and Rory on the couch so Lorelei answers the door to see Luke there. He wants to talk to her outside so she goes, unhappily.
“What’s up?” she says.
“Are you still with that guy?” he asks.
“I’m engaged to and living with him I told you,” she says.
Joshua comes outside then, he puts his hands around Lorelei’s waist.
“Hi, I’m Josh, you must be Luke the coffee guy,” he says putting his other hand out to shake Luke’s hand.
“Hi, nice to finally meet you,” Luke says.
Lorelei apologizes for not having brought Joshua by to meet him telling him how busy they both have been. Luke excuses himself to go after her explanation.
Inside the house Lorelei tells Joshua they need to talk so they go to Rory’s old room, since she lives with Logan now, after they let Logan and Rory know they will be ready to start shortly.
“Joshua I need to tell you something,” she says looking into his eyes.
Joshua interrupts her.
“You want to tell me the coffee guy is your ex-fiancé right?” he asks.
”You already know me too well, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before,” she says.
"There is something I need to tell you also,"
"Yes," she says interrupting.
"I have a Trust Fund from my Grandfather, so if we ever have difficulties we have something to fall back on," he says practically holding his breath.
"Okay," she says, "You say it like its a bad thing."
"No, I just prefer to make my own way in the world."
"Oh, I understand that completely," she says kissing him.
He tells her he is looking forward to their future unless there is something else she needs to add. She puts her arms around his neck to kiss him again as he encircles her waist with his hands pulling her closer for an extended kiss. The door is open a bit and Rory and Logan sneak a peek and run off giggling like two children.
In a few minutes Lorelei and Joshua come out holding hands. Lorelei tells them that they’re moving up the date of the wedding and the reason is because she is pregnant and refuses to wear a maternity wedding dress.
“Well double congrats,” says Logan giving Lorelei a hug and shaking Joshua’s hand.
“Yea, mom are you sure, I mean that is great” Rory says giving her mom and Joshua a hug.
“Now I am getting a stepfather and a sibling,”
“And soon a husband,” Logan adds making everyone laugh.
“Guess I won’t need in any Christmas presents this year,” Rory says with a grin.
“Oh so I can take back your wedding gift?” Logan teases giving her a hug.
After Logan and Joshua fall sleep during the second movie the girls pummel them with popcorn and they all decide it is time for bed. Both men laugh and apologize. The girls tell them only a Gilmore can last through both movies not to worry. Lorelei and Joshua go upstairs; Logan gets the couch and Rory goes to her old room for the last time.
Logan and Rory are staying to help empty the house the next day; so after Lorelei and Joshua go upstairs to bed, Logan waits almost a half hour before he goes to get in bed with Rory. She is waiting for him; though they hesitate to make love with her mom upstairs. Instead they snuggle and fall asleep in one another’s arms.
This is the only other time besides Dean that Rory has had a man in her bed. The next morning when Lorelei and Joshua come downstairs Logan is safely on the couch looking like an innocent little angel.
Lorelei orders breakfast since all of her dishes are already moved or given away. Today the moving people are taking most of her furniture to a second hand store; a few treasured pieces are going to Joshua’s house with her.
The sold sign has been in the yard a couple days so this is the last time this will be the Gilmore house. After everything is out Lorelei and Rory come in to say goodbye to the old place.
“Everything is changing, kid, you getting married; I’m having a baby and getting married,” Lorelei says with tears streaming down her face.
“You know anytime you and Logan want to visit, we have plenty of room for you at the house?”
“I know Mom, but I am a grown up and Logan and I together, it’s not like I won’t see you all the time, I like Joshua and I am glad you chose him, you know?”
“I know sweetie, well goodbye old house,” they say walking out the door for the last time.
