Chapter 12

The next day started out dark, rainy, and humid. It was the type of day where you just sat inside and watched a movie, read a book, or slept. Getting out of bed almost seemed pointless. Rebecca woke up and rolled over in Brian's arms to face him. He was still sound asleep, and she didn't want to wake him so she just laid there, staring at his angelic face and listening to the rain. She studied his face and everything about him, like his strong chiseled jaw line, his soft lips that were almost forming a smile, the stubble forming along his face and chin from not shaving the past few days… she took in everything, storing it in her memory permanently. He was so perfect to her, and their whole relationship/situation seemed too good to be true. There was a catch somewhere, she just wasn't sure of what it was yet. Every now and then thunder would roar off in the distance, coming closer and getting louder each time. After about ten more minutes Brian began to stir and his eyes slowly opened. He gave her a warm smile.
"Good morning," he said stretching then settling back in.
"Morning."
"How long have you been awake?"
"About twenty minutes give or take some."
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"Because I didn't want to, I just laid here thinking and watching you sleep."
"Thinkin' about what?"
"Aren't you full of questions this morning? I was thinking about you, me, us, how surreal this whole thing is. This is so incredibly unbelievable."
"I know what you mean," he said.
"Brian… what are we going to do when reality slaps us in the face and tells us that this isn't real, that it's too good to be true? I don't know if I could handle that."
"Well you don't have to worry because that's not going to happen. We are real Bec, this is reality and nothing can change that."
"I hope you're right… I really hope that you are right."
"So do I," he thought to himself then said, "I am right. I'm gonna take a shower before that storm gets any closer, I won't be long."
He got up and went into the bathroom closing the door behind him. He turned on the water and stepped into it. He just stood there under the water for several minutes, thinking about the conversation he had just had. "She was right, this whole ting is pretty unbelievable… if it wasn't happening to me I probably wouldn't believe it… I just pray that reality doesn't set in any time soon. What are we going to do if and when that happens?" A loud clap of thunder interrupted his thoughts and he quickly washed and got out. He wrapped a towel around his waist and went out into his room to get clothes. Opening up one of the drawers of his dresser, he pulled boxers and a pair of blue Kentucky basketball shorts and out of a different one he grabbed a white t-shirt. He sat on the bed with his head in his hands becoming lost in his own little world again, for some unknown reason. He didn't realize how long he had been sitting there until Rebecca knocked on the door.
"Bri, are you ok? You've been in there for almost an hour," she called through the door.
An hour? Had it really been that long? "Uh, yeah just a second." He quickly got dressed and opened the door. "Sorry about that," he said.
"What were you doing?"
"I guess I just dazed off, I don't really know. I just can't believe I sat there for so long."
"But are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine," he lied. It was starting again, or maybe it hadn't gone away at all. That was how his whole "depression" thing started the first time; the dazing off, the pessimistic thoughts, the lying. "But it is not going to get the best of me this time, nothing can tear me away from her… or anyone else again. Snap out of this now!"
"You hungry?" she asked and Brian just sorta shrugged his shoulders and said a little. "Well, what do you want to eat?"
Brian was silent for a moment, then the biggest smirk spread across his face. "Can I have anything I want?"
"Um… sure."
"Well then I want you." He pulled her close and gave her a nice long kiss. He walked backwards leading them back to the bed, but he miscalculated and ended up falling back. They both laughed, Rebecca laughing harder than Brian. "I guess that was an oops," he said laughing, slightly embarrassed. He was about to kiss her again when the phone started ringing. "Why did we ever buy one of these stupid machines? Hello."
"Hey Brian."
"Oh hey Kev, what's going on?"
"Nothing much, listen do you think you could come over here? There's something really important I need to talk to you about, and I'd rather not do it over the phone."
"Sure, I'll come over later."
"Can you come now?"
"Um, yeah I guess I can."
"Ok I'll see you in a few."
Brian hung up the phone and looked at Rebecca. "Kevin wants me to go to his house for a few minutes… you can come then we can go get something to eat afterwards if you want."
"Sure. I'll just wait in the car while you two talk."
Brian and Rebecca left, leaving Nick a note telling him that they'd be at Kevin's since he was still sleeping. Brian was feeling better about everything when they left, but nothing could have prepared him for what Kevin had to say… nothing.
