Chapter 13

The rain stopped halfway through the drive to Kevin's house. Brian had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach but he shook it off as nothing. He pulled into the driveway and left the car running as he ran up to the front door and knocked. Kevin opened the door, let Brian inside, and walked to the kitchen.
"You want anything?" Kevin asked as Brian sat down at the table.
"Nope I'm cool. So what's this big important thing you wanted to talk to me about?"
"It's well... are sure you don't want anything? I mean I can make you eggs, toast, anything man."
"Kev, I don't want anything. I get the feeling that you're stalling."
"No, I'm not trying to, I just don't know how to tell you this."
"Well just spit it out man, whatever it is can't be that hard to say."
"It's about Rebecca," Kevin said walking out of the kitchen towards the living room.
"What about her?" Brian asked following.
"Don't get me wrong Brian, she is a nice girl and all but I don't think you two should be together."
Brian jumped. "What?! What in the hell are you talking about?"
"Keep it down, Gina's asleep. I just don't think she's right for you."
"Screw Gina! Tell me what you meant by that."
"Whatever you have been going through, I don't think you should use her to make you happy."
"You have no idea what you're talking about Kevin... you don't know what I have been through, what we have been through... and what makes you think I'm "using" her?"
"Brian... nevermind, fuck up your life! She's going to screw it up!"
"Fuck you Kevin! She's the best thing that has ever happened to me, and there is no way she could screw my life up"
"You can't fall in love that fast. Love takes time. I'm only telling you this for your own safety."
"Oh really? How long did it take you to fall in love with Gina? Because if I remember correctly you said you were in love the moment you saw her… and my safety? So now I'm not safe?"
"Well Gina's a different situation. That's my life. I don't want to see you get hurt like what happened before with oh what's her name?"
"Her name was Mary, but she's not important now. Ok so, you can stick your nose into my life and tell me that I'm not in love... but when I say something about you, it's a totally different situation... explain this to me Kev, because I'm clueless right now."
"My life is my life. I know your life is yours but I can see her ruining your life later on. Brian, trust me on this. Please."
Brian remained silent for a moment trying to absorb everything that was happening. "Let me just try to get all of this straight here, you honestly think that we have rushed into this, that I'm not in love, and that she's going to hurt me and ruin my life?"
"Yes. I never rushed with Gina and you know that, you and her can barely keep your hands off of each other."
"Well I just have one thing left to say to you, FUCK YOU!"
"Brian! Fine, get the fuck out of my house!"
"GLADLY! And why we're at it, why don't you do us both a favor and stay the hell out of my life!"
Gina yelled from upstairs breaking the tension for a moment. "SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!"
"You know I can't do that, you're my cousin."
Gina came running downstairs after she realized what was going on. "Oh hi Brian. Want some coffee?"
"Ha, yeah right Kevin, we're family... no thanks Gina."
"Ok... Kev?" she asked.
"No I'm fine.... Brian... I'm sorry. If you want to be with her fine, just keep her away from me."
"That'll be easy because I plan on staying as far away from you as possible!"
Kevin was about to say something but Gina cut him off. "You fucked up Kevin! I told you to mind your own business!" she said walking to the kitchen.
"Gina! Brian! Wait, can't we work this out?"
At the same time they both yelled, "NO!" Brian went out to his car, Gina went in the kitchen, and Kevin was left standing by himself.
Brian could barely walk down the steps and to the car. His whole body was shaking from the emotions that he was holding inside. Hot tears started streaming down his face as he opened the door and slid into the seat. He buries his face in his hands, leaned his forehead on the steering wheel and cried.
"Oh my God, Brian what happened?" Rebecca asked not knowing what the hell was going on. He shook his head because he couldn't talk. She tried to hug him but he pulled away.
"Brian? What's wrong?" Rebecca started to cry at the sight of him crying.
Brian kept shaking his head and refusing to talk. He looked up and saw tears falling from Rebecca's eyes, "No! Please don't start crying... I'll cry even more."
"Then tell me what's going on... please." Brian composed himself enough to give her a brief explanation as to what happened. Rebecca was shocked at first but after a moment it didn't seem to surprise her as much. "Brian… I told you that something like this would…"
"No, don't even start that with me right now," he said cutting her off. "I just want to go home."
"Wait, there's something I need to do first," she said getting out of the car and walking to the house. She knocked on the door a few times but no one answered, so she turned the knob and went on inside. She heard yelling coming from the kitchen so she went in that direction. She found Gina standing there yelling at Kevin.
"Damn you Kevin... you just fucked up your relationship with Brian! Gee are you going fuck us up too?" she yelled.
"Baby I would never hurt you…"
"But you would hurt your own cousin," she said then turned to see Rebecca standing in the doorway. "Please tell me you came to kick the shit out of him!"
"Oh my God, I didn't know you were here. Is Brian ok?" Kevin asked.
"No as a matter of fact, he's not! He's not even close to ok! What did you expect?"
"I did not mean what I said. I just wasn't myself about a half hour ago. Is he outside? I think I should talk to him."
"Can you just cut the bullshit for like ten minutes Kevin? I think you've done enough talking," Gina said.
Rebecca spoke again to answer Kevin's question. "Yes Brian is outside waiting for me, but I wouldn't advise going out there. The only reason I came in here was to…"
"Kick his ass and knock some sense into him?" Gina interrupted.
"I came in to say..." she looked at Kevin, "That YOU know nothing about me, therefore YOU are a dick head for judging me the way that you did. What did I ever do to you Kevin? Not a damn thing, and this is what happens? I just want to know why, why did you say those things about me?"
"I said them because I didn't want Brian to ruin his life. You have no idea what he's going through right now and a girl in his life would just mess everything up."
"Really Kev? What is he going through?" Gina asked.
"This isn't between you and me. It's about Brian, me, and Rebecca," he said back to Gina. "I think that you are a nice person and all but I don't want to see him mess up."
"Answer Gina's question, what is Brian going through? I'm interested in what you think is going on, because I honestly say you have no clue," Rebecca asked.
She got him on that one. "Fuck!" he muttered under his breath. "Honestly I don't even know what he's going through. I'm sure as hell that he or you don't even know what's up with him."
"A piece of advise... get your facts straight before you jump to conclusions and start judging people. I know what he's been going through, he confided in me, he opened up to me because he was too afraid to open up to anyone else... he didn't want to let any of his friends and family down so he kept it all inside. He was just starting to open up to other people and you go and pull this shit... I don't blame him for being this upset... I don't blame him for hating you now," Rebecca said walking out as the tears swelling up in her eyes again.
Gina started clapping when she heard the front door slam. "Great job Kevin! You lost your cousin and his girlfriend in one day" Gina raised her hand in the air, "Oh! Oh! Oh! Can I be next? Fuck this, I'm going out," she said grabbing her keys off of the counter leaving Kevin all alone again.
