“Tomorrow’s Promise”

Chapter 10

Brian slept as much as he could that night to be rested up for the show. The last thing he wanted to do was leave her. “Hey baby. Listen I have to leave for a little while and do a concert. I don’t want to go, but they’re making me do this. I love you and I’ll be back as soon as I can. I’ll be singing to you on stage.” He kissed her forehead and left her with her friends.
The concert started out not so badly. Brian was a little off but no one really noticed. He was concentrating as hard as he could on what he was doing, and the other Boys were proud of him for his determination. He wasn’t doing it for them, he was doing if for his Rebecca. He wanted to make her proud of him again. Everything was going fine until “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now” came up on the set list. He thought that was one of the songs that had been cut out, but he was wrong. The lights dimmed, the music started, and Nick began to sing.

I never thought that I would lose my mind
That I could control this
Never thought that I'd be left behind
That I was stronger than you, baby
Girl if only I knew what I've done
You know, so why don't you tell me
And I, I would bring down the moon and the sun
To show how much I care

Brian’s eyes swelled up with tears and he could barely sing the first chorus.

Don't wanna lose you now
Baby, I know we can win this
Don't wanna lose you now
No no, or ever again

He took a beep breath, swallowed hard and choked out his verse the best that he could.

I've got this feeling you're not gonna stay
It's burning within me
The fear of losing
Of slipping away
It just keeps getting closer, baby
Whatever reason to leave that I’ve had
My place was always beside you
And I wish that I didn't need you so bad
Your face just won't go away

After that Brian Littrell broke down in front of twenty thousand people. The tears fell uncontrollably, and he ran off of the stage. The other four finished singing the song to a crowd of confused and concerned fans. When the song was over Kevin left the stage to check on his cousin. They met half way between the dressing room and the stage.
“Hey, are you ok?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah, it was just the song…”
“We can finish the show without you if you don’t think you can handle anymore. It was enough that you tried.”
“No, there’s something I have to do,” Brian said walking back to the stage. Everyone cheered when they saw that he was ok. “Can I have everyone’s attention please.” The other four walked around trying to hush the crowd and within seconds the whole stadium was silent.
Everyone’s attention was focused on Brian. “First I have to say I’m sorry about running off of the stage earlier. As you may or may not know I have been seeing this girl for the past year, and she was involved in a car accident earlier this week. She’s been in a coma for six days, and she’s not doing very well right now. I had to come here tonight to do this show for you guys, and this is the first time I’ve been away from her since the accident. All I ask is for your prayers that she’ll pull through this. You are the best fans that anyone can ever have. You've stood by us with Howie's sister, my heart issues and the death of Kevin’s father.” He was getting choked up as more tears started to fall. “Please… all I’m asking for is your prayers and support.” The other four guys came up to him and gave him a group hug as screams of “We love you Brian” came from the crowd.
The group only performed three more songs before ending the show. Backstage the fans that were able to get back were all giving their love and prayers to Brian. It made him feel really good because he knew that some people hated the idea of them having girlfriends, and for those who said that they were going to pray for her recovery, just made him feel really, really good.
