WHAT IS ADOPTION

ADOPTION is a process by which a child who has been abandoned or given up by his natural parents and is without his/her natural parents and is without any family, is given a safe, secure and loving family through legal process.


WHO CAN ADOPT.


1 )A Couple desirous of giving a child a family can adopt.

2)Hindus, Buddhist,Janis and Sikhs can adopt under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenence Act, 1956, whereas Non Hindus can take a child under the Guardianship and Wards Act, 1890.


3)Adoption of destitute children had also been facilitated now under the new Juvenile Justice (care and protection)Act, 2000.


4) The adoptive parents should have a regular and reasonable source of income.


5)Neither of the parents should have a major illness


7)The composite age of the adoptive parents should not exceed 90 yrs for adopting infants

8) Single parents can adopt too.

9)There should be a difference of 21 yrs of age between the adopted child and the adoptive parents.
