A challenge for your all knowing minds
Tell me because I want to know
What is the meaning of the word “Ebonics”
You see this word isn’t in my dictionary
Is it an Ebony sort of Hooked On Phonics
Can you see the harmful travesty
If our educational systems decided
There’s a need to educate with slang terminology.
In the future where will my people be....
Not able to function in multi-cultural society
Dwarfed and unable to move ahead and succeed
And who will make up the text books and curriculum
The gangbangers on the street in the hood
or maybe gangster rappers on the radio and television
Stereotypical translation for education is not good
for a people trying to rise out of the degradation
that was and still is holding down my colored nation
To have been raised in the Henry Horner Projects
of the Westside of Chicago and educated on the
basis of phonics of which furthered my knowledge
The case and point I would like to show is had I
learned from a sort of ebonic’s what good would it
have been as I moved on through life.
I lean on my educational knowledge from day to day.
What a tragedy if it had been this ebonic’s
May have taught me to deal with the hypes and pushers
but not a business that might hire me
Maybe my ignorance may be showing
This is the feeling I get from this ebonic’s word
that is going through our educational system
is it good or not I don’t know.
Is it a tool to reach children then pull them out
I’m told it's not just geared to ebony society
Does this mean it’s geared towards just minorities
One thing I do know when I have my children
I want them educated to deal with all
not just the groups others may try to put them in
I’ll wrap this up but as you can see
this call out is in all sincerity
I had to let my feelings on Ebonic’s known
