Christening: Date: 24 Nov 1822
Place: St. Peter's Church, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England
Individual Note: The family of William and Hannah Woodhead resided first in Lion Street in Leeds, later at 6 Oatland Row, in theMeanwood district of Leeds, and lastly at 15 Back Craven Street, also in the Meanwood district of Leeds. After the death of William, Hannah lived with her daughter Mary (Polly), and her son-in-law Joseph Halliday.
The family of William and Hannah Woodhead belonged to the
parish of St. Michael's in Headingley.
William was a jack of all trades. The 1851 Census lists him
as a skinner, his marriage license in 1854 lists him as a currier, and later Census's list him as a cloth finisher, and as a leather finisher.
William grew up in the Kirkgate area of Leeds, near the
parish church of St. Peters. It is probable that he started work in the Kirkgate market skinning hides for one of the many leather traders that brought their wares to market.
