Chapter 11

In the mean time, Destiny was surrounded by visitors. She tried to talk to each one and answer their questions. Her head was moving from one direction to the next so fast she thought it was going to fall off. All she heard were fragments of questions. They all started with: Who, What, Why, When, Where? Destiny rolled her eyes and carefully covered her ears with her hands.

Everyone looked at her with a surprised expression. She shrugged it off and stared at AJ hopelessly. AJ looked at her understandingly. He sat so his elbows were rested on his knees and his fingers were furiously running up and down his face. He was thinking how to get them to shut up without hurting their feelings. His glance moved quickly from one person to the next. He stopped when he reached Serenity, who was quietly sitting in the corner. This alone made him suspicious because Serenity was not the quiet one. She would always be trying to get her voice louder than others, so that everyone would be listening to her alone. He didn’t know what she was up to. AJ knew that Serenity and Destiny had a major dislike toward each other and it wasn’t Serenity’s style to aggravate her enemies, as much as she hated them. Then why would she be in this room? Was she trying to patch things up with Destiny? All he could do was hope. Thoughts like that were crossing through his mind and he fell into some sort of trance because the next thing he knew Destiny smacked the back of his head.

“Ouch! What was that for?” AJ screamed as he rubbed the back of his head. Trying to massage it to a painless state.
“That was for not listening to me!” Destiny said and sat on his lap.
“Sorry babe, I was thinking.”
“YOU were thinking?” Destiny teased and looked at him in disbelief.
“Not funny.” He pouted.
“Aw sweetie, I’m sorry.” She said and kissed him on the forehead.
“You forget, Nick is the dumb one, not me.” He said as he nuzzled on her neck.
“I would defend myself but it happens to be true.” Nick joked with a goofy smile on his face.
“I happen to think you’re very intelligent, Nicky.” Serenity said with a wide smile.
Destiny rolled her eyes.
“You could use some bleaching, honey. All it takes is one visit to Brite Smile and you’ll be set.” Destiny mumbled underneath her breath.
AJ smacked her butt slightly.
“Be a good girl, Dessy.” He whispered in her ear and kissed the tip of her nose.
“Aw! But that’s no fun.” She said and grinned wickedly.
“True.” He said licking his lips.
“So we agree?” She asked
“Yeah, but try and be nice to Serenity, alright?”
“I’m not nice to bitches, honey.” She whispered.
“She’s a good person deep down, under those layers of bullshit she’s been showing you.” He whispered back.
“Okay, I’ll be accepting of her but there is no way I’m going to apologize. If she wants to, I’ll be more than happy to accept.” She said, giving in to his charm.
“Good enough for me.” He said as he kissed her gently on the lips.

“You may have forgotten this, love birds, but we’re still here and uh Destiny, that hospital gown doesn’t cover much.” Howie said.
Destiny chuckled nervously and leaned against AJ to cover the back of her gown.
As soon as Nick heard this, he started circling around the room, trying to catch a glimpse of skin. AJ noticed this and called Nick over.
“Do you need to pee, Nick? Because if you do the bathroom is right over there.” AJ said pointing at the door on the other side of the room.
“Because there really is no need for you to keep it in.” He continued referring to Nick’s circling.
Nick knew AJ wasn’t kidding because of the stern look on his face. He meant business.
“Uh, yeah, thanks buddy.” Nick said nervously and walked quickly toward the bathroom. When he reached the location, he slammed the door behind him. Shortly after, he opened the door and apologized for the noise. Again, he closed the door, quietly this time. He also made sure to lock the door to keep intruders and/or very angry boyfriends away.

Kevin burst out laughing.
“I thought only I could scare him like that. Good job, McLean.” Kevin said cheering him on.
“Thank you. You were my inspiration. All those years of bad-assing us really paid off.” AJ said moving his hands up and down, as if he was bowing to Kevin.
Kevin wiped a fake tear from his cheek and nodded his head in agreement.
“Not to destroy a beautiful moment like this one but I want to change into some normal clothes.” Destiny said as she got up.
“Aw, don’t do that. That hospital gown is sex-ay.” AJ exclaimed.
“Leave it to AJ McLean to be turned on by hospital patients.” Destiny said in horror.
“Not hospital patients. Just you baby.” He said as he pulled her back towards him.
“You’re turned on by everything.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Yes you are, admit it, you’re a sexaholic.”
“Am not!”
“Yes, you are.”
“No!” He stated.
“Yes!”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No!” he said and stuck his tongue out.
“Yes. I never said it was a bad thing, though.” she stuck her tongue out too.
“No I’m not. And what does that mean?”
“Yes you are. That means that I might be able to assist you with this ‘problem’ you posses.” She said with a smile.
“Mmm, I like the sound of that. Okay, yes I am.”
“Good. I win.” She said as she stuck her tongue out again.
He leaned toward her and enveloped her tongue with his mouth and they kissed for what seemed to be forever.

“Excuse me!” Kevin said for the third time.
Destiny was the first one to pull back and quickly moved her hand to her head.
“Whoa, light headed.” She said as she shook her head.
“Serves you right.” Howie said.
“Come on, lets go.” Kevin said and Serenity, Howie and eventually AJ followed.

Destiny laughed and reached over to the clothes the nurse prepared on the chair for her earlier in the day. She slowly started tugging at the gown. It was hanging by her waste, covering her bottom part, but her top was completely bare. She felt a chill on her back. She turned to face the other side of the room when Nick barged in from the bathroom. She yelled and covered her chest with her arms. The gown fell to the floor. There she was, naked except for her underwear and Nick was just standing there staring at her.

“God Nick! Do you mind?”
“No, not at all.” He replied.
“Nick!” She yelled.
“Wh..What?” he stuttered, his glance not leaving her.
“LEAVE!” She screamed.
“Oh...OH...right. Sorry.” He said as he turned around and left the room.
Destiny was hyperventilating from shock but slowly began changing again. When she was done she looked herself over in the mirror. She felt like her old self again.
There was a knock at the door and Destiny yelled: “come in!”
She heard foot steps behind her and she turned around to face her guests.
“Coral??” Destiny said with her mouth hanging open.
“Destiny!!! pick that mouth off the ground, it’s all dirty.” Coral said with a laugh.
“Oh my god Coral!!” Destiny said in surprise.
“I think we’ve established that already, hun.” Coral said.
Destiny laughed and ran over to hug her, almost tackling her in the process.
“Whoa Nelly.” Coral laughed.
“I missed you so much!”
“I know you did, but that doesn’t mean you have the right to kill me!”
“True. Only Bond has a licence to kill.”
“And you’re plain ole Watson.”
Destiny looked at Coral with a confused look.
“I think you got the wrong story.”
“Oh.” was all Coral could say.
“Never were the bright one.”
“Not everyone can be a genius. I chose to be the un-genius of the group. It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it.”
“You’re right there.” Destiny smiled the brightest smile and hugged her friend again.
“Wow It’s really you. I hate we had to meet here.” Coral sighed. “The coffee is awful.” She concluded with a wink.
“How did you know I was here?” Destiny said as everything started to sink in.
“Brian.”
“Brian Littrell?"
“Blonde hair, blue eyes, short dude, big nostrils?” Coral questioned
“Yeah that would be Brian Littrell.” Destiny nodded.
“Strange guy.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I don’t know. He’s just weird.”
“You don’t like him?”
“The truth?”
“And nothing but.” Destiny stated.
“No.”
“NO? Wow. Brian is liked by all. That’s just different.”
“I guess we’re just too different.” Coral said blankly. She didn’t want to talk about Brian.
“How did you meet him though?”
“Hospital gift shop. I work there.” Coral said impatiently.
“Oh, okay. Well lets bail, this joint is giving me the creeps.” Destiny said, sensing that Coral didn’t want to discuss Brian any longer.
“I’m with you.” They said and walked out of the room to find the waiting area.

In the waiting room, Nick was sitting in a chair reading some sort of magazine. His face was still red from the incident with Destiny. He hadn’t told anyone what happened because he knew AJ would get mad if Nick saw Destiny naked before he did. He had to admit, she did look good. He covered his face with the magazine at this thought. Nick knew he had to stop thinking about his friend’s girlfriend like that. It wasn’t healthy. It wasn’t what he needed in the middle of an hospital waiting room! He started taking deep breaths and told his body to calm down. He didn’t notice Serenity walking up to him nor did he see her sitting down right next to him.

“Hello Nicky.” Serenity said as she put her arm around Nick.
“Hi Serenity.” Nick cringed and went to remove her arm.
“Now, now, no need to do that.” She said and removed her arm by herself.
He sighed in relief but gasped in shock as he felt where her arm was now positioned: right on his crotch.
“Aw, what’s wrong, Nicky? A tad embarrassed?”
He whimpered in reply.
“Come on Nick, your body is telling me you like it.”
“Stop Serenity. What the hell is wrong with you?” He snapped.
Her arm quickly moved away from that sensitive area and returned back to embrace him.
“Okay, so we’re not ready for that kind of affection yet.”
“Yet? Serenity did you steal some of my pain killers?”
“No.” She giggled.
“Then what the hee haw are you on?”
“I’m not on anything. I just happen to like you.”
“Oh you do?”
“Yeah, baby.”
“Then why the hell did you drop a bunch of suitcases on my head?” He asked loudly.
“Nicky baby, it was an accident.”
“Serenity, you’ve been on my case since I sat by you on the plane.”
“Nick...don’t be so pig headed. You know you’re attracted to me.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Yes, I do.”
“How?” He asked curiously.
“By the way you look at me.”
“And even if was attracted to you, so what? You’re a bitch.”
“Nick, listen to me, I was having a bad day. It passed. I realized who I really like. It’s you. And you know what? If you don’t want to take advantage of it, then don’t.” She said over dramatically, got up and walked in a different direction.
Nick sighed in frustration and admitted to himself that he did find her attractive but he didn’t know if he should act on it.

“Hey Stoner.” Carrie called as she came around the corner.
Nick looked up at her and sighed. Maybe today was ‘Pretty Women Seduce and Tease Nick’ day and nobody told me? He thought to himself
“Hey Carrie.” He replied.
“That your girlfriend?” She said, referring to Serenity.
“What? No. Why would you think that?”
“She seemed pretty, uh, what’s the word I’m looking for? comfortable with you.” She simply said.
“You saw that?” Nick said with disappointment.
“Unfortunately for me, yeah.”
“Jealous?” Nick said in a hopeful tone.
“No, just disgusted.”
“Oh.” He said with the disappointment returning to his face.
“Aw, you wanted me to be jealous.”
“No I didn’t.” He said with the red color returning to his face for the third time today.
“Please Carter, You want me and you know it.” She said with a knowing stare.
He didn’t say a word.
“Aww you liiiike me. You want to daaate me.” She said quoting from “Ms. Congeniality.”
“Aw! And he’s blushing.” She continued her torture.
“No!” Nick whined and turned his face away from her.
Carrie smiled, as she went on his other side so he would be forced to face her. Her turned direction again. Again, she moved. They continued playing this game, neither one of them planning on giving up.

Soon enough, Destiny found all of her friends in the waiting room. Brian was the first one to approach her with his gifts.
“I got this for you, honey, it’s from all of us.” He said handing her the roses, the gigantic teddy bear and his bible.
“Wow. Thanks, to all of you.” She said looking around.
“You deserve all of it.” Brian gave her a hug and kissed her cheek lightly.
“Aw Bri, you’re so sweet.” Destiny said in a baby voice which made everyone laugh.
“I know.” Brian said with a goofy smile on his face.
Coral rolled her eyes.
“Your bible? Wow Brian, you take this everywhere. It’s your safety net.” She said observing the bible lying in her hands.
“You need it right now. It will be your support.”
“Thank you, Brian.”
“Anything for you.”
Destiny smiled. She noticed someone missing.
“Where's Nick?” Destiny asked, trying to forget the earlier ‘meeting’ they had.
“I have no idea, he was here a sec ago.” Kevin said.
Destiny looked around and noticed him and some girl in the corner.
“I’ll be right back. Try to survive without me around.”
“But it’s so hard.” Howie said.
“It’s impossible.” AJ continued.
“How will I ever manage?” Brian continued their cycle.
“I think you’ll find a way. You are a grown man, kinda.” Coral said with a sick expression on her face.
“Do me a favor, Cor.” Destiny requested.
“Mm?” Coral asked.
“Hold this for me.” Destiny said as she dumped the items into Coral’s hands and walked away.
“Sure.” Coral said and sat down by AJ.
“Well, hello gorgeous.” AJ said.
“Hey...?”
“AJ.”
“No, Correction: Horndog.” Brian said jokingly.
“Sit down, corndog and behave.”
“You’re forgetting pal, I’m the older one.”
“And your point is?” AJ questioned and he grabbed Brian by his shirt and pulled him down.
“AJ...you are?”
“I’m Destiny’s boyfriend. Now the same question goes to you.” AJ said.
“I’ve known her since High School. She’s like a sister to me. I missed her.”
“So you haven’t seen her since the accident?”
“You know about that?”
“She just told me.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, she’s still very upset.”
“We all are. It was awful. Still I can’t...” She paused.
“What?” He asked.
“I can’t help being a bit mad at her for leaving like that.” Coral said honestly.

“NICKERS!!” Destiny yelled intentionally.
“Whoa. Hey Des.” Nick said
“Hola! Care to introduce me to your friend?”
“No, not really.”
Carrie smacked his head playfully and turned around.
“Hi, nice to meet you. I’m Carrie.” She said in a perky voice.
“Destiny. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I give you so much credit, dealing with Nicky boy here.”
“Well yeah, he can be a klutz at times.”
“At times? Honey, try all the time.”
“You’re right.” She nodded and they both started laughing.
“So what are you doing hanging with the likes of him?” Destiny questioned pointing down at Nick.
“HEY!” Nick said and pouted.
“Shh Nicky, adults are talking.” Carrie said and patted his head.
Carrie turned back to Destiny and said:
“I rescued a Snickers bar for him from the evil vending machine earlier. What about yourself?”
“I’m their choreographer.”
“Them being?” Carrie asked.
“The Backstreet Boys.” Destiny said, surprised the Carrie didn’t know who she was talking about.
“The who?”
“You really don’t know who we are?” Nick questioned.
“I honestly don’t.” Carrie said.
“Wow...” Destiny said as her arm leaned on Carrie’s shoulder.
“In time you will. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Destiny said
“I think so too.” Carrie nodded.
“Let me introduce you to the rest of them.”
“Should I be scared?”
“Very.”
“Okay, just wondering. You coming Nicky?”
“I guess so.” Nick said, standing up and following the two girls.
