Chapter 13

The car Howie was driving consisted of Nick in the front seat. Carrie and AJ were lounging in the back seat of the car, both of them leaning against the doors. Nick was antsy in the front seat, he kept moving around and didn’t know what to do with himself. He leaned forward, looked out of the window. He stared at the other cars and the views for a few seconds, then leaned back again. He started tapping his fingers on his lap.

“Nick, stop doing that. It’s distracting me.” Howie said giving him a quick glance and then returning his gaze to the road.
“What am I supposed to do then?”
“I don’t know, turn on the radio or something.” Howie said carelessly.
“Alright.” Nick said as he clicked the button. He pressed the scan button until he heard My Way by Limp Bizkit. He sang along and AJ joined him from the back seat.
When the song ended, I Wanna Be Bad by Willa Ford played and Nick got a funny look on his face.
“They’re still playing THIS song?” He said in horror.
“Spare us.” AJ pleaded.
“I was planning on changing it, man. I don’t need to listen to my ex.”
Nick said as he changed the station again.
After a few seconds, he changed it again and kept repeating this action until Howie smacked his hand away from the radio.
“Nick, STOP. I love you like a brother and all but that’s annoying. Choose a station or turn the damn thing off.” Howie snapped and returned to his driving.
“Fine. What’s up your ass, man? Geez, bite my head off won’t ya?” Nick moved closer toward the window, trying to stay away from his extremely pissed off friend.

They sat in silence until Nick pressed the scan button again and as soon as Howie shot him a look he stopped it and backed away from the radio like a guilty felon. The radio station they were listening to was top 40 but was currently on a commercial break.
“Oh i love this commercial” Carrie rose from her resting state.
“You love a COMMERCIAL?”
“Yeah...Well, It’s not really a commercial, it’s a trailer.” Carrie said sitting straight.
“Let me guess, you like Josh Hartnett?” AJ questioned, rolling his eyes
“And if I do, what is it to you?”
“It’s nothing to me. I have a girlfriend. Who is in the other frickin car.” He sulked.
“Poor baby!” Carrie said compassionately.
“You had to call shot gun didn’t you, Nick?” AJ said as his face reddened in anger.
“Shut it AJ, you’ll see her soon enough.”
“But all this quality time, wasted!” He said dramatically.
“Blah.” was all Nick said.
“By the way Carrie, it’s nothing to me but It’s something to Nicky. We all know he’s got your eyes on you. He can’t let a certain Pearl Harbor hunk get in the picture, can he?” AJ said quietly, messing with Nick’s hair.
“Not the hair, man!” Nick whined.
“Pearl Harbor hunk?” Carrie looked at him weirdly.
“Hey, I’m secure about my sexuality.”
“I see. And how do you know this about Nick?” Carrie said.
“Please! You don’t?” AJ said in disbelief.
Carrie didn’t say a word.
“Nick, don’t you have a thing for Carrie?” AJ asked simply.
Carrie looked like she was about to kill him.
“Dawg...” Nick stated with the crimson color returning to his face, yet again.
“I think we all know the answer to that question now.” AJ said with a victorious smile.
“I win.” AJ gave them a killer smile.
“Nick, we gotta talk.” Carrie said with a disappointed look on her face.

In the mean time, Coral and Brian were having somewhat of a physical fight in the back of the second car. Destiny just rolled her eyes at them and continued searching for her cell phone, hidden somewhere in Kevin’s backpack.
“I don’t know why you decided you could just THROW it in here. It could have broken, you know.” Destiny said, throwing a sweatshirt to the backseat.
“Hey!” Brian yelled out and removed the sweatshirt from his head.
“Sorry Bri, be a sweetheart and keep it in the back for me.” Destiny said in a sweet voice.
“Des, last time I checked cell phones weren’t mad out of glass.” Kevin stated.
“ I know that.” Destiny said, still searching for the cell.
“Why do you need it so bad anyway?”
“I want to call AJ.” She said shyly.
“You’ll see him in 5 minutes.”
“ I know...”
“And?” Kevin asked.
“I miss him.” She said with a pout and returned to search for the cell.
“Young love.” Kevin said as he sighed.
“Move your fat ass away from mine, Littrell.” Coral snapped.
“FAT? You must have vision problems, honey.”
“Oh maybe I was looking at your nose. It’s easy to confuse the two.”
“Excuse me, Ice princess. I’ll move” He said as he moved over to the other side of the seat.
Just as he got to the other side they drove over a bump and he was shoved against her. They stayed in this position for a while until they realized that they supposedly hated eachother.
“Brian! Get your skinny self off me.”
“Didn’t you just say I was fat?”
“No, I said your nose was.
“Enough with the nose jokes.” He pouted.
“You like the height jokes better?”
“No I like the slut jokes.”
“You’re a SLUT?” She gasped.
“Hardy Har Har. I was talking about you.”
“If you’re going to diss me, make it interesting.”
“How can anything be interesting with you as the subject.”
“You guys quit it, you’re getting nasty.” Destiny said from the front seat.
“it’s not like i started it.” Brian said.
“What are you? 5?” Coral asked with a mean look on her face.
“Okay, okay ENOUGH! Shh! I finally found my cell phone.” Destiny said.

Out of respect they both stopped talking and looked out of the windows instead. Coral couldn’t help but feel bad about the things she was saying and the cold way she was behaving but there was something about Brian that ticked her off. He was nothing but nice, or at least that’s what she understood from the first minute she saw him. He screwed up with her the minute he snapped at her when she didn’t deserve it. If there was one thing she couldn’t stand, it was people accusing her of stuff and accusing her of things they never should have. She looked at him from the corner of her eyes. He was silent, his breathes deep and slow. She could tell he was dozing off, knowing that the fight has ended she leaned back, stretched her feet and tried her hardest not to laugh at the conversation Destiny was having with AJ.

“No, I don’t see your car.” Destiny said
“It’s right behind you!” AJ said, talking loudly into Howie’s phone.
“Ouch honey, don’t yell. It’s a cell phone and I’m calling from a car not outer space.”
“Sorry. I just can’t hear you well so I figured you couldn’t either.”
“I’m sorry, reception sucks.”
“Yeah, it always does. But the car!”
“What about it?”
“We’re behind you!” He said excitedly.
“No Alex, you’re not! I’m looking and I don’t see you.”
“You do remember what our car looked like, right?”
“Yeah! It was a blue Aztec.” She said.
“Exactly. And you’re driving a red Jag, right in front of us.”
“Um...I don’t know how to break this to you hun, but the car we were driving was black.”
“It was red.”
“I think I’d know what color car we are in.”
“How? You’re inside the car.”
“AJ, it’s BLACK. You made a mistake, you’ll live.”
“I feel dumb.”
“It’ll pass.”
“Maybe you can help it pass.”
“How will I do that?”
“A kiss.” He said and she could tell he was smiling.
“Through the phone??” Destiny asked in surprise.
“Why not?”
“Because I’m the girl! I’m supposed to ask you to do that.”
“I know, that’s why I asked you to do it first. Save me the embarrassment.”
“No.” She said shyly.
“I’ll do it with you.”
“You’ll do WHAT with me?” She asked in shock.
“You have a dirty mind.”
“I know, I spend too much time around you.”
“Ha. Anyway we can do the kissing thing together.”
“Okay...on 3?” Destiny asked.
“Sure.”
“Alright, I’ll count.”
“Go for it, baby.” AJ said, rooting her on.
“1...2...3" Destiny counted.
On mark AJ made a kissing sound through the phone but Destiny was quiet.
“HEY! You didn’t do it.”
“Gotcha!” She said laughing.
“Des...” He said angrily.
“Gotta go, see you soon baby.” She said quickly and hung up.

Destiny had the brightest smile on her face as she leaned back and hugged the cell phone to her chest. She was in love with her former enemy. The man she couldn’t stand the sight of for ages was now the man she couldn’t wait to see every waking day. She knew how fortunate she was to have someone like that in her life and she was even luckier to be working with him. She couldn’t even start to imagine how hard it must be for Kristin to be away from her husband for such a long time. (AN: Kevin is married, Brian isn’t <~ mainly because I forgot to make him. Sue me. Don’t take that seriously.)

“We’re here.” Kevin said as he parked the car at the entrance to the hotel.
“Why are you parking here?” Coral asked.
“You sound like an 80 year old lady driving, Coral. Why this, Why That...It’s called valet parking.”
“Oh. Well, sorry if I’m not as familiar with this stuff as you, your highness. After all, I’m just a simple peasant.” Coral said and turned her back to him.
Even though she couldn’t see him, he stuck his tongue out and made a goofy face.
“Behave yourselves or we might have to send you to your rooms.” Destiny said.
They all got out of the car, entered the lobby and searched around for the rest of the gang.
“Psst! The Duck Swims at midnight!” A voice whispered from behind a pole.
“What the?” Kevin said as he was pushed behind the gigantic pole.
Destiny raised her eyebrows and walked behind the pole quietly.
“Nick?” Destiny asked, amused by the scene.
“No, Albert Einstein.” Nick said.
Brian started cracking up as he joined the crowds.
“The duck swims?” Coral asked, starting to laugh herself.
“And you compare yourself to Einstein...” Destiny said.
“Well, he did have the whole hair thing goin for him once.” AJ said as he sneaked up behind Destiny.
Destiny screamed as she jumped forward, flying straight into Carrie, they both fell smack on the floor.

Destiny rubbed her head and slowly rolled off Carrie. She sat on the floor, her stare directed at the floor. Then, she looked over at Carrie who was being helped up by Nick. Destiny stared up at the people surrounding them and realized they were quite amused by the scene. She gave Carrie an apologetic smile and a small giggle. Her next thought was: AJ, where was he. She found him, trying to hide behind other people in the corner of the room. They locked eyes and Destiny called for him to come closer to her.

“I’m uh...I’m sorry Dessy.” He said as he offered her his hand.
“AJ!!!” She said loudly, as she quickly got up and started chasing him around the lobby.
“Oh...yeah. That won’t cause attention.” Kevin said, shaking his head slowly.
“While you try to stop them from doing the um stuff they’re doing how about I get an extra room. I guess you’re with us...Do I need to get you rooms?” Howie asked turning to Coral and Carrie.
“Not really, I live here.” Carrie said.
“Me too.” Coral answered.
“Right. I wasn’t really thinking. I’ll be right back.” Howie said and went to greet the receptionist.

When they were finally settled, they all gathered up in one room. By Destiny’s request they were all seated, except Carrie and Nick who were standing beside her.
“You know when I walked off to find Nick?” Destiny asked them.
They all nodded knowingly.
“Well...We kinda made a call to your manager.”
“Correct Des, you kinda made a call to our manager.”
“Okay, I kinda made a call to your manager but It was for YOU, Nicky.” Destiny said poking his chest with her finger.
“So anyway, I was talking to your manager and asked him if he had any jobs left on the tour. He said something about a new opening, someone to document the tour and work on the web page to keep the fans updated with what’s going on in yalls life even when you’re not in the US.”
“Yeah, I remember him saying something about that.” Kevin nodded.
“Well, I thought that since I wanted to spend some more time with my old buddy, Coral here, even if Brian doesn’t, she could take the job. And since I had an instant liking to Carrie and since Nick is way to friggin shy to ask her out by himself, I got him to work with her full time!” Destiny finished with and gave them a winning smile.
“And if you don’t mind...I kinda agreed. I need the job.” Carrie said quietly.
“I have no objection with you, but I don’t know about Ice princess here.” Brian said referring to Coral.
AJ rolled his eyes at him and smacked Brian on the back of his head.
“Okay, what’s with all the smacking today?” Brian asked, trying to reach the sore spot with his hand. Trying being the key word.
“Can’t we all just get along?” Destiny said dramatically and then hopped on the bed.
The bouncing made Brian bounce of the bed and fall on his ass with a loud thump.
“WHY IS EVERYONE BEING MEAN TO ME TODAY?” He asked loudly
“Because they reached their right minds?” Coral said, amused by the scene.
“Talk.” Destiny said as soon as all the hovering stopped.
“Who?” AJ asked
“Brian and Coral. They’re going to go downstairs. Eat a muffin and drink some coffee, preferably decaffeinated because they’re high enough. If they get anymore hyper they might try to harm eachother with plastic forks.” Destiny said in a serious tone.
“They serve the food with plastic forks?” AJ asked
“For their sake, lets hope they do.”
“I’m not going anywhere with him.” Coral said obstinately
“We tried to do this the nice way, we really did. We were offering you free food. FOOD BRIAN! But do you listen? No you don’t. So what we are going to do now is...”Destiny started as she searched for something in her suitcase, which was already lying open on the floor because Nick just had to get his video games out of there. They needed air to breathe. She was glowing when she found the item she was searching for. Handcuffs. She bought them in a costume shop in Germany when they were touring there.

“Handcuffs?” They both asked in surprised.
“Very good, now what color is the sky?” Destiny asked.
“Blue, but why do we need handcuffs?” Brian asked in a panic.
“Because I’m going to force you two to have kinky sex.” Destiny said with a straight face.
“WHAT?” This time everyone in the room asked.
“Would y’all relax? I want them to be friends but not THAT friendly. It’s called a joke people. You should try it one day.”
“Well maybe if you were successful it would inspire us.” Nick said.
“Mm to you.” She said as she stuck her tongue out at him.
“That’s mature.” Nick said.
“Damnitt Nick, that’s my line.” Kevin said from where he was sitting.
“I know, but I don’t get to say it very often.”
“I’ll let it go, but just one time.”
“You two are going to be EXTREMELY close to eachother for the next um lets say 4 hours?” Destiny turned to AJ.
“I think that should be enough.”
“Oh no...” Coral said as she started running around the room like a chicken with its head cut off.
“Oh yes!” AJ said as he ran after her, when he caught up to her he started tick ling her stomach.
“Uncle! Uncle!” She called, laughing so hard tears were slowly dropping for her eyes.
Nick already took care of Brian by sitting on him. Kevin and Howie were guarding his sides.
“You guys are weird.” Coral said still trying to catch the breath.
“We know but it’s worth it. I want my two best buds to get along. Now cuff them fellas.” Destiny said as she handed Kevin the handcuffs. He obeyed. Coral and Brian were now an item, in the literal sense, if they liked it or not.
